The SL55 power is actually surprisingly similar to the non-AMG version of the same engine (M176). This is the standard Mercedes V8, which also was originally developed by AMG. These use single scroll turbos. So looking at the old W222 S560 S-Class, here is a comparison.
The only reason why I use Renntech numbers is that their dyno numbers provide for some consistency across models, along with stock figures.

S560:
Rated by Mercedes-Benz: 463 HP @ 5,250-6,000rpm; 516 LB-FT @ 2,000-4,000rpm
Dyno measured by RENNtech: 484 HP @ 5,600rpm; 538 LB-FT @ 4,750rpm

SL55:
Rated by Mercedes-Benz (avg.): 469 HP @ 5,500-6,250rpm; 516 LB-FT @ 2,250-4,500rpm
Dyno measured by RENNtech (peak): 489 HP @ 4,900rpm; 582 LB-FT @ 3,400rpm

Both engines even seem to tune to roughly the same power output.
Like others, I am eager to discover the exact specs of this particular engine and if for some reason, power is throttled perhaps for things like emissions reporting where MB is paying heavy penalties in Germany.
Much Better information, but I still wouldnt take Renntech info as final.. but I get your point.. Time will tell what the difference is between the 2

There is no software only that will get 805 HP out of this engine. I emailed them several times for info and dyno charts no response. Someone said they don’t sell to USA? No way tune will make that much power without turbo and exhaust upgrades. I have the RPM from Renntech coming today and it takes it to 721HP. Will report back later how it feels.

Here is their Renntech's data, based on dyno results.

SL55 Stock Dyno measured by RENNtech (peak): 489 HP @ 4,900rpm; 582 LB-FT @ 3,400rpm
SL55 Tuned - Rated by RENNtech (peak @crank): 579 HP @ 5,050rpm; 664 LB-FT @ 3,350rpm

SL63 Stock Dyno measured by RENNtech (peak): 625 HP | 681 LB-FT
SL63 Tuned - Rated by RENNtech (peak @crank): 721 HP | 748 LB-FT

Opposite, you just quoted some MB engineer (or was it just a tech at the dealer) providing a quote that should not come out of an engineers mouth. No specifics whatsoever but with some goosed up software. Why don't you help the forum in contacting said engineer and ask him to provide specific details?
I guarantee engines may be identical but the turbos and other components are not. Thus you will not make the same power tuning smaller turbos etc.

The added power will show mostly in the 100+ mph speed range. Maybe interesting for the German Autobahn (I live in Germany) or drag strips but for street driving, there are no real benefits, other than putting a LOT more stress on your drivetrain, especially if you love to race from stop light to stop light and/or use launch control frequently. Makes no sense to put more power into this car, unless you have a location to use it.

I got the Renntech tune for my SL55 but haven't installed it yet, the issue is the ECU hasn't been hacked yet so it's a chip that spoofs the sensors. This is why they can't get the same perf out of the 55 as the 63. I am holding off for a proper ECU tune option and might return the Renntech chip.

Is it? I heard that turbo chargers and a few other parts are different. Am I wrong?
