Orange Peel Alert
I just checked out a new 22 and was shocked at how poor the paint quality is. I haven’t seen orange peel this bad since the 80’s (see 3rd pic). Hoping this car is an anomaly but check your vehicles closely when they arrive. The car I saw just arrived yesterday.
On another note the wheels it had are not the best looking (the center circle is the culprit) and doesn’t do much for the car’s looks overall. I’d advise the 21’s if at all possible.
Before you ask, the heavy orange peel was not isolated to one area/side but both.

This vehicle was either damaged in transport and required a respray at the VPC or MB's painting process for the SL is malfunctioning.

What is happening at MB? This and poor JD Power #'s.Let's hope the new initial quality report due in about 90 days or so will paint (cough) a different picture.

I have a 2022 S580. Loaded “Executive Line” model, $153K MSRP. So many irritating things wrong with it. Dealer keeps saying “functioning as designed,” but the car is driving me nuts. It’s leased and to get out of it would be a $30K+ loss proposition. The $6,500.00 optional E-ABC suspension does not ride nearly as well as my previous four new S Class. I’m beginning to think that 2019 was the last great year for MB. Several folks over there need to be fired.

Having this level of orange peel on any MB is unacceptable let alone their new SL. For those that received theirs, are you experiencing this extreme level of it?

Sorry to hear this. A smooth/compliant ride is something I would expect in any non-sport MB, let alone an S580. The "operating as designed" comeback is really becoming overplayed, reminds me of the old days when they would say "they all do that". Have you tried replacing the ROF's with non? Resting on one's laurels seems to be the way things are these days in many lux brands, and that's just not for me. Today it's how much more can we get the customer to pay and how little can we deliver in return. As C.M. Burns would say: bosh, flimshaw!

I ordered all of my previous four S Class sedans. 2013 S550 with ABC, 2015 S550, 2018 & 2020 S560’s all with MBC (Magic Body Control). All had 18” wheels and all had non-run flat tires. The ride was absolutely exquisite on all of them. I expected the 2022 S580 with the new E-ABC to be even better, but it does not come close in comfort. It has 19” wheels, the smallest available and I put non-RFT on, which helped, but the ride is still a far cry from the others.

Right right, but those, ungaraged, paint jobs only last 6-7 years

Just to clarify some things: As you can see in the 1st picture the orange peel is not visible. It’s when I was walking around the car getting closer when it revealed its ugly self.
The op is on both upper sides of the vehicle and just as bad. I did not check the hood or trunk deck.
In the close up pic it looks like there’s no op between the two heavy areas of it, but that’s just the light, the entire area has it.
Check your vehicles closely and under different lighting
