Fuel Pump recall status for 2022/2023 SL's

If anyone hears any updated info from their dealer on when they'll have a fix for the fuel pump recall available, please do share. The SL we're trying to buy is still under a stop sale until this is resolved. Our dealer has no current info. Would be nice to be able to enjoy it for at least a little bit of the remaining summer.

MY VEHICLE STATUS Recall Currently Pending
MBUSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 2023060010
NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 23V445
RECALL START DATE Recall Currently Pending
RECALL REPORTED DATE June 26, 2023
COMPONENT(S) 23P2197608
SUMMARY Mercedes-Benz AG ("MBAG"), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year ("MY") 2021-2023 GLE/GLS (167 platform), C-Class (205, 206 platform), E-Class (213 platform), S-Class (223 platform), SL (232 platform), E-Class Coupe/Convertible (238 platform), GLC (253 platform), CLS (257 platform), AMG GT 4-doors Coupe (290 platform) and G-Class (463 platform) vehicles, the fuel pump impeller might not meet current specifications in regards to material characteristics. As a consequence, the impeller might deform and therefore come into contact with the fuel pump housing, leading to a mechanical resistance. In some instances, this could lead to a shutdown of the fuel pump. As a result, the vehicle could lose propulsion, which could increase the risk of crash or injury. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealershipwill replace the fuel delivery module on the affected vehicles.

CONSEQUENCE As a consequence, the impeller might deform and therefore come into contact with the fuel pump housing, leading to a mechanical resistance. In some instances, this could lead to a shutdown of the fuel pump. As a result, the vehicle could lose propulsion, which could increase the risk of crash or injury.

REMEDY An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership will replace the fuel delivery module on the affected vehicles.

Got the same notice last week. Dealership will let me know when they have a solution to implement.

I talked with my dealership about this - they told me that this will happen in Jan 2024 due to parts shortage

So per the OP comment. Does that mean dealers are not allowed to sell any new SL's until the recall has been performed? If so is that true for a used R232 SL from a dealer? Just being curious but it might explain why this chart I follow on different car models shows Zero sales in July or August. It's accurate and up to date through August for other Makes and models.

Yes, it's my understanding all sales are stopped when a recall is pending. All the new SL's I had been looking at were under a stop sale for the last couple of months. I'm assuming it's the same for used. In my case, the dealer was able to find the new part yesterday, and get it installed today, so I'll be picking up my SL63 this weekend.

New and used 2022 models are under the stop sale. Fixes are being implemented now.

Sales are reported at zero because MB reports quarterly not monthly.

I called my service advisor to check on the status of a broken plastic trim piece for the side of the driver’s seat which was ordered from Germany in August. While speaking with him, I asked about the fuel pump recall. He ran my vin and told me there were no open service bulletins or campaigns for my car. As far as the trim piece, it might be in by the end of October.

WEM: That is weird because I received the recall notice in the mail and when I went to the dealership on a software issue, the recall fuel component came right up. Might want to recheck or ask a different dealer.

FYI, I didn’t receive a letter from MBUSA either. I had the service department check again. They said my vin had no open recalls or campaigns. I’ll see if the situation changes when I bring the car back in after the trim piece arrives.

why do we allow this poor service?

I received a recall notice from MBUSA concerning my 2015 SL65. I called the listed number on the aforesaid notice twice, only to be disconnected twice.......both highly trained reps asked me for a call back number.
The first rep insisted my email was incorrect, it's been SL600SL560 since 1994!!! I decided to try to email MBUSA, except the link to the email doesn't list an email. I accessed the recall page for MBUSA, I entered my VIN. The message below seems to be in conflict with the letter I received.

I remember when MB customer service was great. The MB is now run by clown college graduates.

Recalls

VIN: WDDJK7KAXFF030387There are no recalls for your vehicle at this time.

I think you posted in the wrong forum.
Also, I am not sure if the link on the MB website lists all campaigns, as compared to actual safety recalls.

If you received the letter, you will have a recall or campaign number which is what matters.

It's easily possible that it doesn't affect all cars and just some of them. There should be a serial number range of each model and number of the affected cars listed. Perhaps someone could post the letter for others to check.

I entered my VIN into the website and found it was not subject to the recall. YMMV.

R232 Gurus:

I know this is not the R231 forum, it was my attempt to further highlight the utter incompetence we all face. Perhaps you are correct in stating that the MB website is only a partial list of recalls. I believe if one puts in their VIN, it most certainly should display a comprehensive list. The message displayed, "There are no recalls for your vehicle at this time." I can't discern any specificity that would limit type of recall.
Many R232 owners have reported some degree of confusion with the fuel pump "recall".........it appears as business as usual.

I recently spoke to an owner of a midwest MB dealership I asked about the R232. He expressed exasperation over the flawed introduction, myriad electrical problems and confusion over the fuel pump recall. He stated in his decades of experience, this has been the most problematic car he's ever sold and places the blame on the parent company. Dealerships want happy customers to remain customers, not engage in damage control. I hope MB gets their act together.
