yep! I know it is crazy, but I like the US spec bumpers as well, for different reasons... At some angles, the euro spec cars look like the front end has been smashed in... The longer projection of the US spec bumpers kinda gives an implied wedge shape to the cars... It is a perception thing, i'm convinced. From a purists' point of view; however, the euro-spec bumpers are more in keeping with the intended design of the car... I wouldn't exchange mona lisa's garments for a thong bikini, if you know what I mean... Just wouldn't be the same!

Ears,

You are spot on. The Euro version is how it was meant to be. Whilst I understand the reasons the larger US fenders dilute the clean lines of the car.

Speaking of which,on the yellow car there is also the dreaded rubber spoiler that was attached to the boot of the car.

What WAS that all about! It`s of no practical use whatsoever and it destroys the lines of the car. The Mona Lisa with a moustache..... no it doesn`t work.

Wow, I never noticed the spoiler when I posted this... I was in a hurry, and pleased to find two, similar cars to post.

I concur... The Mona Lisa with a moustache would be unpleasant at best...

Why is that spoiler, rubber ?
Is that an OEM MB part ? Is the same spoiler made in a more durable or composite material, which can be painted to match the car's body color ???

also, did AMG make any racing components / parts for the R107 ?

Other than the spoiler being Butt-Ugly, I guess nothing is really wrong with them. They were OEM on the euro sl500 (107), but I do not know if ALL sl500 had them or not.

AMG dress-up kits do exist, but they're like the spoiler in my opinion. As to performance mods, I cannot speak with any authority. During the early years of AMG/Benz relationship, more dress than tuning were the norm. The other day, on ebay, I saw an AMG kit for the 107 body style... I did not pay much attention to it, so I may be mistaken.

I'm not a true purist, but I do like to see the 107 un-molested. Other opinions may vary, and thankfully, often do.
