Around 92K. But a -lot- of people on MercedesShop had reassured me that that's just 'broken in', with many stating they're in the 250K range. Still, I've gotten a laundry list of items to look at and change from them, the most important being the timing chain guide or change itself, then mounts both front and rear. Loads more.

Nice 560. Any thoughts on a wheel change and replacing that bulky muffler. Let that big 8 breathe!

Is it? Thanx. I have a lot to change due to age 1st, but I'll put that on my list. Wheels, I was thinking AMG Aero 1 , if I can find the series 1 rims anywhere. I'm even considering the stock previous gen SL's painted hubcaps alternatively though.

That's a beauty and a classic. IMHO, don't do anything that will radically change the original look. Congrats!

Lol, no problem. A friend of mine has a '79 450SL Euro. The oldschool AMG's will sit very nicely with the car. Is your 560 the more powerful Euro version?

No, that would be the 500SL. 560 was exclusive to the US market. I was steered away from the 500 by my mechanic for a number of reasons. Mainly, cost of ownership should be lower this way; for that I give up a few dozen HP that the 560 has less then the 500.

...like zo...

(yes, a poor photochop. I should have used a perspective transformation for the rear rim image instead of just resized the aspect ratio...)

Been a while, late response; hope you read this. But I just learned something worthy of sharing .... not only does Mandrus make rims that fit MBs, but the MB dealership nearest to me even sells them! They have both rims I'm interested in right on display on the showroom floor! Not surprisingly, they also sell them for 3x - 4x more then if I were to buy them online...

I wouldn't be surprised that Mandrus rims fit newer MB's, but I would be surprised that they fit older MB's (e.g., W126, R107, etc.) without any modifications.

Did you find Mandrus rims that fit your R107 without spacers?

Haha, 3-4x the online price...

Ah, now I understand the point. Thanx for your patience.

No, I didn't research proper offset requirments at different widths yet on the 107. Mandrus had a lot of options with the 5x112 bolt pattern however, so figured there would be a match.
http://www.1010tire.com/wheel.asp?wh...heelmodel=Emil

But I'll be sure to investigate that soon. Bad news is though, I find now I have about $10K of spending already earmarked for other projects, so the rims might not be until the winter or next year at this rate...

edit: I know there's an 'enormous' amount of space from stock on the outside of the wheel to go wider both front & back. Do you happen to know how many millimeters I can go wider on the inside of the wheel w/o rubbing the shock or wheelwell of something else (both front & back again)? thanx much.

I just love this tool:

Beautiful purchase. Congratulations. I agree with Mongoose, the stock look on these is still very classy. Most of the time the custom rims look a little too pretentious for these classics. Very nice color btw, what is it called? I don't remember seeing one like it.

Thanx for the comments all. I am liking the classy stock look. However still think'n too.

As I'm tired of bending all my nice rims on my C43 because there isn't enough sidewall height, thinking of putting tires that are 0.5" larger then I use now, that the SL uses, on my nice rims and using them on the SL.

I finally sat down and did a Photochop of how it might look. Would have blended better is I played with the hue on the rims to give it an orange/burnt cast from the setting sun perhaps... :
