Newbie to Mercedes - 1979 Mercedes 450SL

I have a few questions and would like to introduce myself. I live in Florida and am brand new to the Mercedes world. Name is Justin and I am a truck guy but ran across a good deal I think, which takes me to the next question.

This white original 1979 450SL Mercedes has blue leather interior (not sure if that is factory). Hard top convertible with the black soft top. It has 168000 miles on it, paint is in excellent condition. It does kick pretty good from 1 to second gear. Not sure if that's major or how much to fix. It has a few small rust spot on top of the third brake in the back and has a few pin spot rust areas below the 450SL emblem. I would like the run down on this vehicle as far as how much to possibly fix the transmission and what other things to look for. Oh yeah and the big kicker she only wants 1k for it with a clear title in hand. It has a very few minor dings on the hood as well. What is this worth and what would you all do to it. I realize its a classic and not sure what will help the value and what is a no no as far as repainting and fixing up everything?

Thanks all for your help.

Advice

Not sure why there hasn't been any replies, but trans issues for your car should be well documented I am confused why you were unable to find anything. Given the age, it could be simply an adjustment or indicative of a larger issue. hard to tell with out a bit more detail. with regards to the rust I cant say those are the locations that I see Rust on most 107's (over the wheel wells, Front headlight in the fender and the lower fender to the door) but it may be nothing. there is an old quote that many use around here, "there is no cheap Mercedes" it is very true. I just ordered a radiator and hoses and the bill is over 1000.00 wholesale.

Me too: Florida and just acquired 450SL

Just acquired a 1978 barn find 450 SL with low mileage. Will be putting it on the stands to go through everything in about a month. Don't have a response to your questions, but keep in touch and surely we can help each other.
