SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Tortured an M5

Tortured an M5
So the weather has *finally* gotten nice up in NorCal, and I've been driving the SL65 most of the week. Coming home from dinner this evening on El Camino, I'm almost to my turnoff onto Woodside rd when I get to a red light with two cars ahead of me. And then a miracle occurs - the van just ahead of me pulls over into the left lane, and lo and behold, just ahead of me is E39 BMW M5, silver with quad pipes and all the trimmings, waiting for the light to turn green.
I tuck up RIGHT behind the M5, and I see the driver's head move. Yep, he's noticed me - although it's night, so all he can really see is there's a convertible with HIDs on his tail.
The light turns, and he accelerates out of the light at a modest clip, enough to pull ahead of all normal traffic -- but not of course faster than me. I stick right on his tail, and sure enough he gets the hint, puts it into 2nd and nails the gas. The M5 surges ahead for a second and starts to pull away from me. I floor the loud pedal on the SL, 25 PSI of RENNtech-specified boost fills the 6.0L V12, and 900 ft/lbs of torque kicks me in the ***. The SL lunges forward and just about rear ends the M5 (still accelerating at WOT), and I have to get all the way off the gas to avoid a collision. This pattern repeats itself as I get back into the gas and the M5 pauses for the shift to 3rd. Once into 3rd the M5 stops accelerating (or at least it seems that way - 900 ft/lbs vs 369 ft/lbs is, well, like a SVT Mustang Cobra vs an Integra) and I follow a couple carlengths back at about 1/3 throttle.
The M5 takes the right-hander toward Woodside at speed and I follow, but when I signal to go right into the hairpin the M5 continues straight. Just like that, the fun is over. *Sigh* Maybe I'll find him again in the daylight![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
... and I remember when the M5 felt fast, too... Sheesh.

Mind you in my own particular case, I wouldn't race myself in my 55 or a 65 for that matter against my '03 Cobra, as that would be a very different ballgame

> Treynor, you should come down for the meet on, June 11th. , would be a welcome addition to the meet. A Long drive for you sure, but, should be nice.
Only if you'll race me
We can put this whole "SL600 vs SL65" issue to bed once and for all.
Only if you'll race me

well well, I could speak and wright two languages although it's bad my grammar, acording to your opinion. Sometimes it's difficult because my brain think in a different way like yours, but remember I could go to Sydney and communicate with the fellow residents, but; could you come to Puerto Rico and have a normal lunch here???
