Florida Tuners

I'm starting to look into an ECU upgrade for my car. Renntech was my first stop because it's five minutes away. The only thing I didn't like about Renntech is that they won't remove the speed limiter, they only raise it to 186. Are there any other shops in Florida that program ECUs? I don't want to remove the ECU myself and send it out so that's not an option.

I thought it was limited to 155 and 186 was the top speed not limited?

At some levels you are splitting hairs above 186 aren't you? The major concern seems to be tires above that speed. I agree the car should be unlimited to it's potential but I certainly understand saftey issues.

Seriously, where are you going to run over 186 and how often in FL. I wouldn't let that stop you from picking who you want to do your tuning.

My guess is that RT is doing what AMG does in Germany.

Just my thoughts.

I'll probably rarely go over 186, but it's just the fact I know the limiter is there that will bother me. I'm actually looking into upgrading wheels and tires also so that the tire issue won't be a factor.

My research tells me that Conti's are the only tires that can stand up to the true top speed of a SL65 or SL55. Problem is they do not have the load ratings yet for our cars so they are not approved.......

Let me know what you find.

RENNtech won't upgrade your top speed beyond 186 because it's not safe to do so - the tires aren't rated for the speed & weight, and losing customers to 200 MPH blowouts is bad for one's reputation

I've used RENNtech on two different TT V12s and had excellent results both times; that's where my vote would go.

from my understanding renntech, kleemann, carlsson and soon to be brabus
use all the same version of code with some minor differences they simply can only do so much for now... i would pay extar to remove my 186 limiter and add couple extra PSI from turbos.. but that is only known to AMG untill the next release/ version/ hack

and that the limiter is absolutely not in the hands of these tuners but rather in hacking the next level of the limiter which is set higher than the current 186mph

That is my humble oppinion.....

tire wise continentals are offered since the particular size that you can put on is limited by the wheel well.. max i could fit on mine was 305 with a 20x11 rim

BTW anybody intereset in the original AMG Gunmetal centers 19 Inch rims

So there are no tires that will handle the weight and unlimited top speed on the car? The Continental GT is heavier and has a top speed of 198.

Tony,

I am not trying to rain on your parade. Yes the GT has a top speed of 198 and it is heavier. It also has special tires on it. As an example Yokohama has a special "B" series Bentley tire for that car.

If you are serious about running over 186, options are limited.

Good luck!

My car is derestricted (unlimited).

I have switched to AMG 19s and Michelin PS2 that are rated for the speed and the weight of our cars. I have been over 200 on them and the tire pressures only raised 1 lb/tire, so I don't think that there was any heat build up or danger of tire failure.

Don't waste huge money on software changes. I used Speedtuning USA for $350. The car is faster than stock, derestricted and runs perfect.

Speedtuning USA in MD does remove the limter. So if you want to go 200mph you can. I would think it is hard to go over the 186 mph only with the ECU mod. I am curious how many SC 55 owners who have only the ECU mod have been able to even hit that mark.

I didn't realize that PS2's are rated for 200? That is great news! How much room does one need to get a SL55 up to 200 MPH?
