You know you're an SL fanatic when... You wash your SL more frequently than you take showers.
You know you're an SL fanatic when... You've owned more than one SL.
You know you're an SL fanatic when... A hardtop convertible is the norm.

Several MB's Superperformance MK III Cobra
Talking

You know you're an SL fanatic when:

• you sleep with your car
• you peek in the garage at 3:00 am to ensure it's ok.
• you spend more for shampoo for the car than for your hair.
• your spouse can talk you into that too expensive camera and software by smiling seductively and whispering "Honey - we can take pictures of your CAR. . "
• you have the ramp to your driveway repaved so that you can safely pull your car in without risking scraping the bumpers...
there are more photos of your car than your family members
• from behind, you think your car looks better than your significant other.

You know you're a **** if you'd give head just to ride in an SL.

Two topics combined!

You know you're a typical SL owner when you have no idea how much horsepower your car has or others do for that matter.

You know you're an SL fanatic when you can't go into a store without looking back at your car.

Big difference between the two. Of course those first guys wouldn't even know about a primo sight like this.

Hey all this is my first post. Hopefully soon I will be an SLowner. Gotta sell the 355 first.

I love my Fcars but the SL55 will blow you (and the 355) away from a performance standpoint. Good Luck.......

... You are know of all available options
... You have most or all options
... You"ll walk quarter mile after finding the perfect parking spot
... you've actually looked for the furthest parking spot when parking at a public space.
...you get to work early just so that you can get that one perfect parking space that is a little bit bigger than the others, so that you can avoid door dings.
...you spend more than an hour a day on MBWorld
...you drive through driveways and garage entrances at an angle
...you've spent more on an ECU than other folks spend on a supercharger
...you think of detailing your car as a pleasure
...you've bought a piece of luggage just because it fits so well in the trunk of your car.
...you are smiling every time you get into your car
...your day is not complete without visiting this website
...if you have a tiny sports car that has the most comfortable interior of any car you've ever driven
...you spend more time waxing your car than your girlfriend
. . . you go out of your way to drive through a tunnel so you can open your windows and downshift to pretend you are driving an F1 car (Muci, SL55 and 65)

Um Ok. Where's the hostility come from? I was mearly pointing out many SL drivers have no idea what they have and it's a shame.
Sure in a straight line it will outrun the 355. I agree. They do what, 12.6-13.0 in the QT. My 355 has done 12.8 in Houston. You would be hard pressed to even stay in my rear view mirror on a track though. I have driven the SLs and I love them but they don't handle when compared to an f-car but I am sure you know that already.

Actually, the power to weight ratio of the two cars is slightly in favour of the F355, especially the lighter berlinetta (380 bhp/1422 kg = 0.267) compared to the SL55 (493 bhp/1955 kg = 0.252). The F355 has better traction with less invasive (none) traction control and more weight over the driven wheels. Where the SL55 gains is having an auto transmission with lock up torque converter which means you can shift gear much faster. Hurried gear changes in an F355 are not good. I rate the cars pretty much equal from a performance standpoint, with the SL55 being much easier to drive fast but the F355 being much more satisfying to drive fast.

As the performance videos of the SL55/SL600 on the R230 forum show, being able to just plant the throttle and hang on gives outstanding performance; in the F355, a standing start like that places a lot of stress, not least on the car's clutch and the owner's pocket book.

Sounds about right except mine's an F1 and it shifts pretty much instantaneously. Have any of you guys seen the video of that 355 twin turbo from australia running 10 sec. QTs. Hundreds of passes on stock clutch, tranny and internals. 355s are pretty bulletproof nless they are garage queens and aren't driven regularly but that goes for most cars espescially exotics. It's the little things that can go wrong with them. The engine, clutch and tranny are very solid. Mine has gone 3 years with no repairs at all. I drive it often though.

How quick can SL55s be made. I would like my next car to run mid 11s. Is that possible in an SL55. I like the sportiness of the SL55s but it seems the SL600s are quicker and easier to get deep in the 11s. I can't really stomach the extra cash for the 65 though.

11's are easily possible. The biggest decision i think is if the owner wants to swap out the seats to remove a couple hundred pounds EACH.

Holy cow. A couple hundred each. I wonder if anyonemakes carbon fiber hoods and other heavy panels. Anyone know.
It looks like from Renntech for 16K you can get 613hp and 626Ft Lbs of torque. That's 108 ft lbs and a 120hp gain. That's $133 per pony and $148 per ftlb. With a weight of 4235Lbs that gives it 6.9 lbs/hp and 6.75 lbs/ftlb after upgrade.

The SL600 can gain 132hp(625hp)and 155ftlbs(745hp) for $6400. That's $48/hp and $41/ftlb. Definately alot cheaper. At 4429lbs that sets it at 7.1 lbs/hp and 5.9 lbs/ftlb.

How much weight can you shave off these cars? That would change those numbers very favorably especially if it was 500lbs or so.

Looks like we are in the same boat. I just sold my 355 spider and am trying to find the right SL55 or 65. I haven't decided if the 65 is worth the extra bucks. One thing I do know is that the 55's I have driven would blow the 355 away but can't hold a candle to the 355 in looks! Good luck.

Ahh I thought it would have something to do with that. I drove one about a year ago back to back with an SL600 and I loved both much more than I thought I would. My two cars that I drove at the time were my 355 SPider and my M3 convertible so I didn't think I would like it but I really loved them. They handled much better than I thought. All that torque was alot of fun to. And of course you can't beat the interior and the amenities the car has.
