SL55 Owners: Would you do it again?

I saw a similar post of the SL500/600 Forum.

Given that hindsight is 20/20, and knowing what you know having owned it (the good, the bad, and the ugly), would you have still made the decision to buy an SL55.

Thanks in advance for you input.

Absolutely... however I would have gone w/ keyless-go. Some remorse for not getting the SL65, but I get the feeling if I had I'd have regreted it. It's not like I race my cars or anything.

Don't regret buying one at all, it's a great car. That said, I will not go and buy another one until there's major reason to do so, like a new model. Wish I had been more adventurous on colour, silver is everywhere.

Bad question. Most people when presented with this question will say yes because we all want to rationalize the things that we spend lots of money on are worth it. Psych 101. Interestingly enough when you let someone use something for free and then ask them to pay for it the value goes way down in their mind.

On another note I can't wait to to buy my first SL .

Your Psych 101 does not really apply to me. I am not really 100% happy with my CL500. I mean the car is great and it's luxurious while having a quite sporty look. And it has all the functions I will need e.g. keyless go, parking sensor etc. It's not slow (I don't need my car to be fast like a SL55) and it is a comfortable 4 seater while having a 2 seater look. It's actually a perfect choice for me as I can only own 1 car at a time. But it is just lack of the cool feeling driving it. I will see it as a low profile car to travel but not to be excited with.

Not good. A complete indictment on Mercedes' ability to deliver quality and meet the customer's reasonable expectations.

Colour...

BlueSL I noted earlier you said you wouldn't have wanted a silver one as it was everywhere. What colour would you have preferred on outside and inside? Also continuing this thread - would anyone consider getting a lower model SL e.g. from 55 AMG to 500 or 350 or would everyone always just go for a higher model? If they brought out some new lower engines would that interest anyone?

Thanks

SL55 vs SL550

As an aside, but in the same vein, if MB comes out with an SL550 as the "base" US model next year, would the anticipated horsepower ratings of nearly 400hp be sufficient for current "55" owners. (I know the SL55 is more than hp ratings, but I am curious how this would affect current/future buyers)

Well the frantic horsepower race seems to have paused for now, presumably because we're waiting for the new engines and it's said MB will be abandoning supercharging so the SL55 will likely not survive the mid-life make-over. As was the case with the current S Class, the new one will give us some pointers what will be put in the SL in the future.

The horspower gap between the SL500 and the SL55 is quite large - 170 or so - and I can quite imagine that if the gap between them was pretty much halved, the price difference would be more difficult to justify and many would go for the lower priced car.

If you look at my 911, it has a factory power enhancement which gives a modest 25 - 30hp and the previous owner paid $10k for it. Makes the power increase from the SL500 to the SL55 seem a real bargain... one reason why the SL55 has been so popular.

You know how skirt lengths track the economy? Becoming longer when the economy is down and shorter, more exuberant, when its up. Wondering whether the race for higher and higher engine powers will be more muted as the world economy heads into more difficult times...

It's back from the shop

Gotta say, I do love the car when it's working. B.T.W. I had a failure of the ABC and the right front strut. Replaced the tires with a set of PilotSports too.

So was mine. Truly the most badly constructed car I have ever owned.

I love the car but not sure if I will be getting another SL in the future. I'm thinking of going Aston or Bentley.
