Is the DISTRONIC emblem UGLY in a sl?

i have the opportunity to buy a sl65 at the SAME price with or without distronics....now i'll probably never use it save for a goof however i am understanding that the distronic front emblem appears to have a plastic cover over the star.......whos seen this and does it take away from the look of the car?

It does not look bad at all. It does not have a cover over the star. The star is a part of a disk that is made in a material that allows the radar to shoot through it.

You really don't notice it at all.

Here are pictures of my SL65 with Distronic and my CLS55 without.

I prefer the look of the distronic. It looks a lot better in life than in Schiz's photo, not to mention that it is a handy feature to leave on all of the time.

I didn't think I would use Distronic, but since it came with my SL I ended up with it, and now find that I use it all the time on the freeway. Given the option to get it free of charge, I would definitely take it!

I have it on my SL55 and personally think it looks "richer" than the normal star. I also thought that I would never use it but on the freeways it has become very useful.

I really like it !
My car's onboard computer is equipped with Distronic; the DTR symbol displays on the MFD every time I start the car. However, it doesn't have any of the actual laser hardware and components.
I would love to retro-fit it one day, but it's beacoup bucks !

I would definitely get it, if given the choice. Go for it !!

Hi –

I like it! I didn’t have it on my first SL65 but my new one has it and it looks and works great. If it's included at no cost - get it.

I may be the only one, but I prefer the look without it. The usefulness of it might be worth the "bad" cosmetics though.

Disto

Yea, coming up with a complete parts list, detailed installation instructions and finding someone to activate it (sunman) is the challenge. I could kick out a few K for the feature but I don't want to find out "oh, your serial # ends in an odd number, you need the lime green one".

Go with the distronic, it's a lot better looking with than without IMO.
