You'd think that he'd smear me over the pavement, but not quite  .
The first pull from 30 MPH to 130 MPH was a pretty dead draw. At around 125, I let off the gas and he blew by me. He then claimed that he wasn't really trying. I then said, "but dude, even so, I could buy six ZO6 Vettes for the price of your AMG". That just pissed him off . So, he said, " let's do it again". So I did it again, but this time, I didn't let off at 125 like before.
We actually launched together and I immediately took the lead, by just a car length or so. Another dead heat to the tripple digits...going, going, 175 + - MPH!!! Dead *******g even!!. It was 175 or whatever the top of 5th gear is. This guy did not know what to say. He wasn't too pleased with the results. But after we ran out of road, we pulled over and started to talk. We actully hit it off, and he is sending some business my way, so that part was cool. And what a incredibly beautiful car!!! Sh*t, for 200K it better the be the best of everything, but still not faster than my Z
Now I'm not the worlds greatest shifter, and the SL is an auto, but a damn good auto. I don't know how it is I was able to keep up with him, other than the extra 800 LBS his car weighed. Still with 250 more HP and 300 ft/lbs more torque, I was expecting a real schooling :toetap: .
BTW, this was on a service road with no traffic at all, at 1 am, so we were only endangering ourselves and maybe a few deer

Z06? C6?
I didn't think any were out yet..........
That said, I like the vettes. Hell, I had one and prob. will pick up another. But, they are diff. cars and if I could only have one, I'd choose the SL...

Maybe an old Z06. And it isnt an 800lb difference...probably 1000+, plus the Vette has better aero. Winning the launch isnt a surpirse to me...not pulling away from the SL65 is a surprise. Also...Chevy underrates their cars, especially the Vette and Crapmaro motors.

He was driving a C5 Vette (he refers to the 650 HP SL65 having 250 more HP than his Vette, which would be consistent with the 400 HP C5 Z06).
There is no way that a C5 Z06 will keep up with an SL65 (or even an SL55, for that matter), which means that this guy is either inventing, hallucinating, or he raced a rebadged SL500 with some mods.

I used to race stock Z06's in my SL55 and won 3 out of 5 times with no problems at the drag strip.
In my SL65 it is never a problem. Something here is way out of wack. From a roll it is even worse unless he had his emergency brake on!
Z06's are very quick cars and in the hands of good drivers on the drag strip will beat a stock SL55 or E55 depending on the drivers ability to launch.
Stock Z vs stock SL65, not a chance at any speed.

I think this is a vette driver's wet dream!
I have been at the track (road courses) and have handed a number of vettes (including Z06's) a fair amount of abuse. The only vette that I have had trouble with was a non stock one (roll cage, slicks, etc). So, I am pretty sure that he was dreaming. Additionally, unless the SL65 had some ECU work it would have been all over at 155, and if it did have some ECU work.......it would have been quite a spanking!

I whoop up on Z06's in my stock '03 S600 all day long. It's funny to beat them by about 3 car lenghts as they look down at their gauges and swear that something's wrong with their car!
