RENNTech - $6,800 = 665hp / 840 ft-lbs torque [11.38@127.2mph 1/4-mile ref:treynor]

MBWerks - $1,295 = 660hp / 825 ft-lbs torque [11.42@124.6mph 1/4-mile ref:mbwerks]

You can find official results here...
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...ag-Racing.html

I don't know about Brabus, Kleemann or Lorinser. But remember that the mechanical limit on the transmission is 778 ft-lbs of torque as per AMG.

Yup, that's bout it...anymore and you will almost surely cook the trans.....that's why there is not that much out there.

If you have unlimited cash....Renntech custom fit a 6 speed to a Benz years ago......that would be massive cash for an SL65.....I would think between 30-50K.

Best of luck.

Let's have a bit of a real life comparison for fun.

My SL65 stock put down 524 HP and ran 11.36 is the quarter at 117. (I know the speed is low but the elapsed time is great)

Treynor, what was your before and after HP with the Renntech tuning? Also what was your best quarter before drag radials.

I still think that Kleemann and Renntech are very optimistic about their HP gains.

Does anyone really know what the powertrain loss is from an AMG trans? Since it is a lock up tranny after 1st grear, my suspicion is that the loss is not as high as everyone thinks.

As an example, if my 604 HP car puts down 524 the loss is around 13%. Using a 13% loss number a SL65 would need to put down 579 to be 665 at the crank. And to get the 700 HP some claim is just a tweak away, we would need to see 609 at the rear wheels. Even if we used 17% loss for 700 we would need to see 581.

I am not saying that I don't believe that the tuning results in more HP, it does and I have seen it with my own eyes on the dyno. It just has not resulted numbers above 550 at the rear wheels to my knowledge.

The changes in the torque curve and response coupled with the raising of the speed limiter are a great combo. I just think the HP gains claimed are a bit over inflated.

As anyone who has need to the track in a SL65 will tell you, traction is the #1 problem. I wish Treynor could have done some runs with his drag radials before the tuning.

Just my thoughts! WHAT A CAR!

It is a great car!

Just for another 2 cents in addition to a higher setting on the rev and speed limiter...

One thing noticably different once the ECU is remapped is the throttle response. Moreover, the bogging down (decreasing rpm) is somewhat eliminated/controllable on hard acceleration where the tires are breaking loose.

Though we are now talking fractions of a second for an obnoxious amount of money, it is now to each his/her own. Personally, I am a believer of the remapped software.

But just out of curiosity for Schiz, how did you land (what conditions) with 11.36 sec on a stock SL65? Treynor and I run drag radials with ECU modified cars, and our best times are within finger-reach of your stock numbers.

We will be running again with cross pipes and anti-reversion exhaust and see what numbers we will be getting next time. Theoretically, it is supposed to deliver a little more torque.

Thearle,

You are correct in that my numbers were wrong. Trap speed was correct at 117 but the ET was 11.63 NOT 11.36. Missed the typo! In stock form it has run all over 11.63 to 11.75 and between 117 and 126 trap speeds pending track prep on stock tires.

I have a set of drag radial for my E55T that I may try and fit to see what the SL65 will do with a stock ECU and dyno mode.

Enjoy!

You can edit your previous post to correct the typo if you want to eliminate confusion...just a thought.

Dont forget the cheapest horsepower substitute/gains is losing weight. The stock seats weigh a couple hundred pounds. The best seats i can think of as substitutes are the SLR seats.

Check this thread too.

edit: I posted the good seat pics in the linked thread so the forum wont let me post them again.

...except that the SLR seats probably cost more than $10k.

Stock my HP figures were similar to yours. RENNtech'd, mine now makes 550 RWHP and 740 RWTQ. The peak RWHP gains with the ECU are not very large, but the peak RWTQ gains are huge, and the area under the curve gains are huge as well. I'd say roughly the RENNtech ECU makes the car about 10% faster in the real world. I may run mine on the stock tires again just to see how it does.
