Aussie SL AMG owners - come to Alice!
A few guys are heading to Alice Springs on the first weekend in August to drive out to Uluru and back. So far we have the following cars committed:
Lamborghini Murcielago and Gallardo
Ferrari 360 Spider, 360 CS and 550
Porsche GT2
Lotus Esprit
Honda NSX
We are (mostly) freighting the cars in to Alice and then driving the 440Km to Uluru. As many of the roads have no speed limits, we are looking forward to some freedom. MOTOR magazine will bring a car or two along as well and cover the story. We'll also spend a day on other outings with a local - who owns the Murci...
We would love to have an AMG or two along too. Here's a link with some details.

Here's the destination - luxury accommodation just near the Rock

Don't think I've got the time to do it unfortunately, also have pressure to go skiing around that time. I'd have a few qualms about subjecting my SL55 to NT outback roads as well. Probably be more comfortable caining my Cobra out there, as it's not such a big investment.

Well, the trip was a great success. We had 2 Lambos, 2 Ferraris, 2 Porsches and a Honda NSX. Cars came from Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and the Alice. We travelled nearly 2000km in 4 days. The roads around Alice Springs are pretty amazing - some straight stuff and some undulating and curvy sections. Everyone had a great time. The only damage was some stone chipping on a couple of the cars that insisted on following too closely.
Here are a couple of pics. If anyone wants to know about the next one, please say so and we can keep you updated. I don't know when the next one will be, but we all want to go back.

Not sure. My guess is October or November.

It's on again this August for any Aussies who want to give their fast car a run. Here's a link with some more pics of last year's event.

Then again, there's the damn stone chips, that's scares me still with a car like the GT. The cobra would be ok though. I'd have probably considered taking the 55 this year if I wasn't selling it to pay for the GT...
