SL55/63/65/R230 AMG 04 SL55 COMAND question

04 SL55 COMAND question

Hi can someone please confirm if the 04 SL55's headunit will play MP3 cd's or not and if not then how much will it cost ( if do-able ) to swarp out for newer headunit the WILL play MP3 cd's.

2004 SL55, 2005 E500 Wagon

Mine won't play MP3s, but the one in my 05 E500 will. Dunno how much to swap out; I just use an iPod jacked into the Aux input.

Thats good to know that the 04's still has the AUX jack in the glove box. I have been doing a lot of searches on forums and got conflicting information. One guy was telling me that the SL55 HAD an AUX jack in 03 but not in 04.

AUX jack was removed in the '05 model.

After much search on this topic I finally got the information that I was looking for so I figure I will post it on here so the next person who's wondering about the same thing will have an easier time getting the answers.

1) The 04 SL55 has the old 2.0 COMAND system using the old D2B wiring.
3) The 04 SL55 does not play MP3 cds or any DVDs.
2) The 04 SL55 has an AUX jack in the glove box for things like an IPOD.
3) The 05 SL55 will play MP3s recorded on CDs and DVD's.
4) The 05 SL55 or newer headunits will not work on 04's because they use the MOST wiring and is not internchangable with the D2B wiring.

That's what I got so far on this.

Please feel free to add to or make corrections.

That's as I understand it, with a couple of quibbles: first, all the 05 SL55 may not play MP3 DVDs, although they will play MP3 Cds. I don't know it to be the case in SLs, but I do know that some US-spec 05 Es will play MP3 DVDs and some won't (mine won't).

And second, and this is incredibly picky, but the MOST system uses fiber optics, not "wiring" to connect the components.
