MSRP?

Is that MSRP or what the dealer is including as markup? Is the US dollar now equivalent to the Canadian dollar as the Euro is now with the US dollar?

That is the msrp price and the Canadian dollar buys you 63 US cents currently.

SL55 AMG
Ignoring spec differences, that makes the SL55 about 2% less than in Germany; the SL500 is also about 2% less than in Germany. The SL500 is about 6% more expensive in the US than in Germany. Why Canada is the bargain basement to buy SLs in the world, I have no idea.

retail vs. wholesale

It is probably up to each country as to what type of profit margin they want to build into the various models. For example there is about a six thousand price differential between wholesale and retail on the SL500 in the US, whereas the E class appears to only allow for three thousand per car in the US. Canada may have decided to have more parity between the models? Anyone from Canada know if the wholesale prices are identical for a US dealer and a Canadian dealer?

It's all the more surprising when you think Canada's SL allocation will be tiny compared to the US.

advertising

.... and then again, if Mercedes Canada and their dealers are not investing anything into advertising the SL then they can justify selling it for less. They probably get all the free advertising they need from the US.

Limited supply

You are absolutely correct about the limited allocation for the Canadian market. I have been told to expect only two '03 units for Western Canada this year! Luckily I am one of them, in fact mine will be a July production and September delivery unit. having said that, when I requested for a production/vin number, my dealer was unable to provide me with that so... I didn't realise that it takes 60 days for production! If the 'other' owner is reading this, drop a post and lets have a drink some time.

On the flipside, due to its extremely limited allocation, I would assume that it would hold its value or achieve a better premium in Canada than in the US. On a totally separate note, I saw my first Vanquish last week in metallic Silver-Blue and that is going for C$350,000 locally so does that make the Aston twice as good as the Benz? At these prices, does anyone care?
