Sl65 for a few months, ready for upgrade....
I like the ride, but I guess I am bored with the car overall. The acceleration no longer perks my interest.
Any suggestions?

Give a call over to Mr Cory at Kleemann.....ECU mod puts you at a 739hp with 1300ft lbs tq. You get bored with that, you need to look into Twin Turby Vipers at 1000hp....you get bored with that, you need help.

I got an Idea, you give me the car for a few months and you take that my E55, and then, when I give you your car back, you will have a new found respect for your SL65. That is honestly the best thing to do, and we should get right on it!

The problem with the SL isn't the power, its the lack of the "wow" factor. It is very sterile and since they failed big time in creating the body to set it apart from the other SL's I think for the money they should have done way more. That said, I debated this going in but I have had some wild in your face cars and was sick and tired of not being able to park them or drive them anywhere I wanted to go. Factor in reliability for an exotic, lack of amenities, hard top covert etc. I went with it. I am very happy but really do miss the coolness factor. When the Gallardo Spyder appears in a few months it will have most of what I love in a car but I don't think I will be changing for a while.

Get the ESP completely disabled , not just turned down but removed , will make the acceleration a lot more excting, or even just trying to stay pointing the right way in the wet

'05 SL 55 Black/Black w/mods from Eurocharged/Kleemann/BuckheadImports
Talk to Renntech, your car will be set right there
I don't know the current HP/Torque ratings of the most heavily modded SL 65 out there, but talk to Renntech and see what they can do.
Definitely over 750+ is now possible, drop in the Kleemann electronic scissor doors, then go to Carlsson and ask them to put that prototype GT-R wide-Body insane body kit on it, put racing exhaust on it, Carbon light-weight seats, light-weight wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon body panels, and you'll have a car that will smoke an Enzo. This all might cost a bit much to do though.
The most bang for your buck will be to just drop in a few key Renntech upgrades, and then widen your fenders so that you can put in super-wide tires in there, maybe like Pirelli or Michelin tires in the 345/30/ZR-20 range. That might help with the traction, and definitely put in the upgraded LSD that I think either Renntech or Kleemann or both offer for the SL 65. :p

..........if you think about it, the only striking cars in appearance MB makes are the G and the CLS and of course the SLR. I don't mean that these are the nicest looking cars, but they are the ones that comand the most attention. I am not sure if this is good or bad, but honestly most people don't know the difference between an S65 and an S500. Many probably think the S500 is a superior car because number "500" is greater than "65". MB cars are mostly understated in appearance. Even the Maybach looks ordionary compared to th Phantom which has a somewhat stronger presence. My point is that the coolness factor between various mercedes models is totally lost on the public and resides only among MB owners and other car enthisiasts. A used Ferrari will get you much much more attention than a brand new S65 or SL65 will get you a better parking spot at a valet entrance. So when one buys one of these higher end mercedes models, it is purely for your own personal enjoyement.

I completely agree. I knew this going in as a Gallardo was my other choice. It would be nice however that MB would make the top dogs look a little more over the top as well. I would love a little more in your face styling with the 65. Some SLR doors would have been a nice start!

I agree 100%! My sister had a 04 SL500 with AMG package and from a close distance you would never know the difference. Had the same issue when I owned my 911TT, from a close distance it could look like a normal 911.
btw- Jeff, make sure a slow E55 does not spank you in the spring when we go back to the track

That aint gonna happen! By that time she will have been rennteched or Kleemanized. I was just reading both sites. Kleeman offers over 100hp ecu mod and renntech's is only 50hp. Most here have done the Renntech for the biturbo. Any thoughts on this?

He meant not different enough to make it seem really special. Like an SL65 or SL500.

But the 996 model shares alot of the same front end as the Boxster, Boxster S and 911. When you spend over $120K you want to look somewhat different then a $40K Boxster.
Hence, the 997 model looks different then the Boxster model and I assume the 997TT will look AWESOME! Need to get one next summer

Call Cory at Kleemann and Bob at Renntech, then call me

F430 isn't a bad choice; but if you're looking for something really special, and a "closer" replacement to the SL65? My vote's for a Superamerica: Ferrari performance, GT configuration, and a flipdown hardtop....

I say lose two wheels
If your losing that certain something in your car why not look at other options . . . What is it exactly that your getting bored with ? I say get get a motorcycle and go out a scare the ***** out of yourself ! No but seriously , ( being that i have never driven a SLR ) try out something new , maybe a motorcycle will do it for you ! I can understand losing that new car excitement so I wish you well in your quest to find what it is that you lost !
