Has anyone hardwired a V1..........

I am wanting to hardwire my Valantine 1 in the SL55. Does anyone know the best place to tie into the power, etc?

Thanks

I just did my M3 and I found some great directions that tapped into the overhead lights. It took about 15 minutes. I'm sure that there is a chance for the same thing in the SL55.

Mine is tapped into the overhead consol lights. I placed the V1 just to the right of the rear view mirror. Works perfectly out of both the front and rear. Putting the V there also has the benefit of being in the heaviest part of the front window tint which makes it almost invisible from outside the car and DOES NOT effect it's performance.

Any pics of the process or installation? I'm thinking of doing that also.

That's where I was thinking about going. That's where I went with the M3.

Nice installation. Nice load of dust also. Looks like you coughed up a powdered donut.

Not to go too far off topic but anyone have any words about the K40? Over on F-Chat the V1 is what everyone (most) recommended. But the clunky install bothers me the most.

Let me tell you a story. Here in Dallas we have these trailers that have a LED display connected to a Kband radar. The Dallas PD move them into high traffic areas and they display the speed of cars coming down the road. They are supposed to get you to slow down. One was on a main high speed/traffic street near my house for about a week and every day I would get the KBand and just blast past it. One day, the V-1 gave me my alert and I glanced up at the display and there was a big "2" in the window that tells you how many signals are coming in. Something was up, I stood on the brakes and watched these two guys go flying past me. Right behind the trailer was a cop with a hand held KBand radar gun and a chase car about a half a block down the road. Needless to say the two guys that blew past me and a few others were pulled over generating revenue for the City of Dallas.

The moral of this story, to my mind, is I don't think there is another detector on the market that would have saved my *** that day. On top of that, I can't count the times the V1 gave me readings over hills and around corners that gave me enough warning time to not get nabbed. One thing is for sure with this detector, if the KaBand signal goes off, there's a cop somewhere around.

Joe, What you said about the V 1 is true and it's saved my ... more than once. I have two V 1's and wouldn't buy anything else. Too clunky install?

All I meant was that it's not an in dash install. But still, it looks very small and I just ordered two.

I have the V1 hardwired in my other cars but I was using the Escort Solo in the M3 (as I hadn't installed the hard wire yet). I got blasted with Ka.....the Solo didn't even go off!!! I get to spend a Sat in traffic school BS. V1 is the only way to go!

I just picked up my new E55AMG last week and with the search on posts under "Valentine install" I was able to hard wire the V1 using the cigarette power wire which is red/white along with brown ground and blue light power (I asked Tucson MB Tech where to get power and he suggested this point also). Not to hard to remove the ashtray to get to the back of the ashtray (2 clips in the front holding it in easily accessible with a small screw driver after moving the shift cover plate which releases via two plastic clips in the front near the ashtray door and allows the cover plate to be moved forward and then manipulated 90 degrees). Took me 1.5 hours so I didn't break anything! Anyhow, the Valentine plastic wire tapping plug works great and the wires that came with the unit are just right in length. I tapped a ground at the parking break metal and all seems to work fine. I suction cupped the V1 left side of the rear view cause I couldn't figure out how to get the rj11 wire through the headliner and light control assembly ! It will be very serviceable IMHO where it is and no great inconvenience looking left instead of right when it alerts! I felt naked without the protection!! :v
