Well that's just totally F'd Up!
That means that I'm going to have to buy like 20 of them now for the business to resell!
I do love this car...but I do HATE Ford, too!

well they lose money on every one they sell as it costs more to produce than they make on each one.. prolly part of their restructuring plan as ford is seriously deep in the red right now.. the only point of the GT anyways was for "hype" about ford anyways.. not to earn a profit.. the article says "profit" but they indicate that for the car brand most likely as in earned sales of mustangs, etc.. because of the GT hype..

The GT is a great performance car, but when I went down to go buy one, I found out that it is pretty useless as a 'road car'.
There are zero places to put anything.....no trunk space, no room behind the seats, etc. Going away for a weekend with a friend is not possible without stacking your companion with luggage. Something my girlfriend would be thrilled about. Once again, an American company signed off on something that should have been thought through better.

With all the hype about the Gt is is still a Ford, and your typical Ford dealer has no clue on how to take care of a buyer who can drop 160k for a car. Last fall I went to a local dealer and they wanted 100k over sticker. The sales clowns new little about the car. Let me see the engine. Sales clown tries to open the FRONT boot lid. Wrong end I say. Another sales clown pipes in "this is a rear engine car". I inform this clown that it is a MID engine car. It was comical. Most of the GTs made are not sold to end users yet.
For more about GT pricing check out www.fordgtprices.com
It is also a big car on the outside. IngenereAMG is spot on about storage, there isn't any.

The difference between American car makers and German car makers is that most of the worlds great designers were recognised while they were still alive in Europe. You have to die before someone will think highly of you in the USA. Originally Posted by DBERRY7578

The original Shelby racing cars were sold for barely more than scrap metal because they were replaced by newer models and seen as old hat.

This is the exact reason why inventories are piling up and they are sitting on the show room floor. The dealers turned off any potential buyers with their greediness. We had an order for one at MSRP. When it was time to order the car, the dealer (Jacky Jones Ford in GA) changed his mind and said he wanted $250k for the car. We told him to stick it and walked. I will let Ford and the dealers sit on their pride and joy and pick one up in 5 years with low miles for under $100k when the "new" has worn off and everyone is eyeing the next greatest toy on the market.Originally Posted by Scruffyone

Exactly!
All of the Ford Idiots wanted a $100K or more premium for this car - and they sat, and they sat, and they sat. A year later they still wanted a $100K premium.... Idiots!
Another year later, and I think that most if not all of those $100K-plus 'premium' cars are still sitting!
I figured it was about time to send the boys shopping - that once there were over a few hundred of thses puppies sitting in showrooms all over the country and it was time for dealers to get their third or whatever - next allotment - of the cars that these guys would realize that it was time to get rid of the 2004's and 2005's....
Now the idiots in Ford managment have announced the end of the build -- which means that the Ford idiots at the dealers are going to figure that they can once again get their $100K plus premium because the car is going out of production!!!!
Gad I hate Ford!

I would think that Ford would want the car out on the road more (moving advertisment) and am wondering why these types of pricing tactics are not publicly addressed in the press (from a negative perspective)..Originally Posted by FASN8N

I talked with GM's and Sales Managers about this for 6 months to a year before I just gave up (and turned it over to my GM's).
Their response was always, "I don't mind having it sit here in the showroom for a year, unsold -- it sells alot of Mustang GT's". -
Fuggin' Ford.....

Right. It brings them in. They can see it surrounded by rope, sitting in the showroom. I took the sales clown 15 min to get permission/find the key. He was very nervous as he opened the door. The car I saw had Mustang fit and finish.Originally Posted by ClayJ

I never understood why they don't sell and service these cars through their Aston network -- I think that's their fatal downfall. Sure, they wanted to use the Ford name for the sake of Heritage, but do you honestly think a Ford dealer knows how to treat a six figure car purchase customer before, during, or after a sale?
"I'm sorry your GT broke down sir. Would you like the shuttle van to take you somewhere? How about a free cup of coffee and a balloon?"

They definately didn't know how to handle the GT customers --

I am not into the American bashing thing. If the US automakers got serious about competing in the marketplace, they may be able to come up with something sellable. Case in point: The Pontiac Aztec.......the frightening thing is that a number of comittees actually had to sign off on that thing.Originally Posted by DBERRY7578

The deal about the Ford GT being absolutely useless as a road car is true......you can't put anything in it! Try explaining to your girlfriend that she has to put all the luggage on her lap for the weekend.......NOT!!
There is a reason that Ford and GM stock are in the toilet and they are laying people off. Its not that they can't keep up with demand.
I was excited when I heard about the GT. I went to 3 Ford stores and not a single one had any idea about the car.....but they all tried to sell me an F150 or a 'Stang. And when they began to have a clue........they wanted $100K over MSRP............NOT! Plus the sales/service experience at the Ford store is not comensurate w/spending that kind of money. Period!

Atleast you didn't live in a city that shared your mercedes dealership with the ford dealership.. same service department/parts department, etc.. nothing like pulling up in an sl55 behind a ford focus and some redneck in a ford 250 behind you with his gut hanging out of his carhardts.. "lets combine our mercedes and ford dealership into one, what a great idea!

The Ford GT, IMO, is one of the great cars of all time. All you have to do is to drive it to the track and back to realize what an exceptional car it is.
So Ford made it - lousy company makes great car -- happens sometimes (BTW ex AMG personnel did have a role in designing that engine for the Lightning - and the GT). It is a shame that they are going to cease production. I know enough of Ford, Shelby, and the upcoming Shelby 500 GT or whatever they'll end up calling it, to know that in no way, shape, or form will it be or come up to the stance of the Ford GT....
Only the Corvette, and arguably the Viper, keep the flame burning bright for the American SuperPerfomance Car -- the Ford GT - the best of them all - is soon to be gone.....
Very sad day, indeed.

i own the sl 65and the ford gt and a lambo roadster
i must tell you that as far as exotics go .. you do not need storage compatments. to justify.my lambo has no compartments either.... and true .. your average FORD dealer would not have a clue about how to repair a ford gt.. but the good thing is .. you can go to fordracing.com and buy any part you want and have a local mustang mechanic install it ..
for a road car my 65 is better to go to work with but for performance the sl is simply a pig on a road course or a quarter mile track...whereas the FORD GT is a weekend monster...
ford gt is a straight racing vehicle with minimal convenience and yet a street legal car.. performance is great and to ADD 200 RWHP and 250 RWTQ ...will cost you approx 4 k you can actually achieve 800 RWHP since the motor is very sturdy ready to be increased in power....
if anyone wants to check a supped up ford gt i would love to let them drive it to see
i live in florida. pm me
ps i have now a full racing exhaust and it sounds just like formula 1 racecar

But was the Ford GT really part of the flame? Not really. No kid will tell you "Oh man, I want a Ford GT when I grow up!" It's all about the Vette and Viper, and these days with the world shrinking some kids are even saying wild stuff like M5's and E55's! Originally Posted by ClayJ
