This red looks darker with less purple to it than the Berry Ive seen before. Is it different because its AMG berry or is the picture not telling the whole truth? I was looking on the UK MB site and they have a color that is pretty close and it is called flamenco red. I guess we'll know more when the MB USA build your own site comes online.

I was told AMG Berry Red is the right color for 07. I hope it's this dark. It looks even better than what I was hoping for. The Darker the better for me.

You need to see the color on the car in person and in different types of lighting before you make a decision. Photos and images on the computer monitor are deceiving.

Berry Red is definitely brighter than the red in the picture. More like this:

Note how they look slightly different with different exposure and lighting?

Your Nav screen looks much bigger than the normal one! Is it an aftermarket one of some type? Also, I like that tirck mount for your remote!

Can you explain what you have there? Very nice set up and I love all of the other interior mods and colors! Thanks.

Hey did you guys notice the additional power rating on the 2007? Also I am surprised that they are doing a SL55 instead of the SL63.

Why surprised? That N/A 63 engine will be powering a C and a ML class - no way was MB going to drop that into it's flagship SL. Now a TT version (SL69) is certainly a possibility.

It will be a sad day for some of us when the SL55 goes to the SL63. Power mods will be a lot more $ and prob a lot more intrusive to the engine. A kleeman Stage 2 is less than $7000 in parts for an additional 100 hp/100 tq. This is just bolt on stuff too. You will not see that starting out with a NA engine.

Why not? The 63 in the other models will be detuned, the new CL and the S will feature the new 63 so why not the SL?

Why not? Well...

How much can you really de-tune a NA V-8? The ML63 makes 510HP - the new SL55 is already making 510 so unless they can add 30-40 ponies to the 6.3 for the SL what's the point?

Also, the only mentions that I've seen of the 6.3 finding its way into the SL are on these boards - meanwhile, car mags have mentioned two different turbo versions of the 6.3L under development for possible use in the SL. Add that MB has trademarked "SL69" but not "SL63" and I'd bet a good chunk of change that we'll never see that 6.3L in a SL in a NA form.

Now, if you mean as a replacement for the SL550 in the next generation car... well maybe as a SL630. But I don't see MB devaluing the AMG brand by using the 6.3L in anything but a AMG badged car.

I'm still waiting, taking the wait-and-see approach to this question.

I am ordering a couple of new 2007 SL55's -- I am not waiting for a new-engined update.

My understanding currently is that they will drop the 6.3L V8 into various models, one at a time, and in an order which they either have - or haven't - determined.

I assume that both the SL and the SLK are towards the end of the timeline for the 6.3L change-out -- and I expect something other than the 6.3L engine that we currently know to end up getting put in the SL.....

But who really knows? Is there even anyone at MBZ who knows, at this point in time?

Yes, it is more than likely that someone at MBZ knows.

i think a logical answer lies in the fact that mercedes probably doesn't want to put all of it's eggs in one basket.. if they put the 6.3l engine in ALL their models and a huge flaw is found in the 6.3l engine, then what? mercedes reputation will be toast... it's a new engine, with huge hp output, and with that output, there are bound to be instances coming up of things going wrong in certain circumstances... (as small as it may be) I don't blame them if this is the reasoning, a smart and safe choice..

The guy I use as my auto broker thinks the SL may get a turbo version of the new 6.2 hence the current engine staying on for another year, albeit with a new improved supercharger for MY07.

The pic was ******ed from a Japanese tuner shop website. The Nav that you see is an aftermarket model. It was probably a parallel import car so that the COMAND system does not work in Japan so they have to swap an aftermarket unit. Also, the functionality of the aftermarket nav in Japan is far superior than any OEM nav module (the Japanese COMAND system is made by Panasonic I believe).

Still on your trip, while on probation? This should be fun....

Personal use: 3 for the USA residences, 1 for Europe, and 1 for the UAE -- if you really want to know.

That makes 5 in all - but in the conversation I posted "a couple" to be considerate.

Don't sell SL's in the businesses.

It's going to be interesting. I'm hoping for the darkest berry version possible.
Black Floor mats would go a long way in toning it down.
For the last several years my interior has been black on all of my cars.
Time for a change.
