Who Lowered their SL55.........

I am thinking of lowering my 55. I would like to know who has done it, whom did you use, how much height, cost, and is the handling/ride better/worse. Thanks...........

fast cars and faster motorcycles ..
Ian,
please share info with me as well. i am leaning towards Kleeman as my dealer is authorized to sell their products.. the cost installed is about $2K.. i was told that the Kleeman lowering module will lower the car about 1 1/4".. i noticed while driving alongside my SL55 at about 65 to 70 mph, that the space between the tire and fender loks to be about 1 1/4"... i have been told that the car is at it's lowest setting at 75 mph, but i have not verified that yet.. because the cars are so computerized, i am afraid to do anything without involving my dealer. .. lowering module, ecu , pulley etc..

I am also looking for this info. I have seen prices from $800 to $2000. I really don't know why one is better than another. Also, I think the car looks pretty cool without lowering though there is quite a gap between my tires and rear wheels (Carlson1/16 20's).

I had my SL lowered with a Kleemann Module. Lowering can be adjusted. The ride is a little more bumpy, not that mutch, but you can tell. If you add. 20" tires, you can defetnly feel it. I am fully satisfied with the way the module works, and i can only recomend it. My car was lowered 1", and i feel that it the right height for me. Price is a matter of negotiation.

Wow, close to 2k? Man, my customer just paid 1700, inc tax, installation and the Carlsson module. I would RECOMMEND the Carlsson lowering module!

do you really need a lowering module. what about just lowering it through the linkage.

I just got a quote from Oliver at Speedtuning on their lowering module of $699!! I used their ECU flash and it was brilliant, so I may do their lowering module as well.

I paid less than $2,000 installed but can't say exactly how much it was as I had somewhat of a package deal (from MBWerks San Diego). Probably close to what Adam is quoting. I'm not sure about the total drop but I like the looks. VERY PLEASED with it overall. No rubbing or other problems.

I have not had any issues with the dealer (lowering module, euro comand) yet... personally I'm not that concerned from a warranty standpoint. Though I have the same concerns you do when it comes to the ECU and PULLEY.

I believe the Carlsson lowering module is the most advance module in the market right now. And no one has yet to encounter any problems with ECU or dealerships.

Ingenere,

Did you already forget about this thread?

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ght=lower+sl55

I still believe this is the best way to go. The price is about $500. There is no additions or modules. It completely adjustable to all kinds of different heights based on customer's preference. The toughest thing about this solution is finding a Mercedes Dealership that is adept at doing this AND is willing to do it for you.

The ride was a tad bit rougher, but hey, it's still a Mercedes SL on air suspension so it's always pretty comfortable.

If you couldn't find a Mercedes dealership who can lower it for you, then SpeedTuning's solution sounds pretty good.

Good luck.

Dan

DocDan,
.
"That's when the tech was quick to explain that the Mercedes suspension would raise up about an inch when the car was off. It would lower a bunch with the ignition on, and get to the lowest driving height with the car in drive."
.
i was told that the car sits at it's lowest ride height at about 75 mph. have you confirmed this.?
.
thanks for the heads up, i will ask my dealer about their computer.. also, Ben from Wheels Boutique told me that they can lower the car very easily as well. (must be computer programmming like the MB Star diag. )

You might want to try DynoComp. They might work something out for you. Or you might want to purchase a lowering module.
