fast cars and faster motorcycles ..
cool vid.. fast car..
.
how do you launch?
.
once you launch, are you in manual mode and just keep your foot on the floor with the car shifting on it's own at every redline?
.
does it shift into 3rd gear?

The launch procedure is really tricky. For my 11.31 pass, I

1) Put the car in "sport" tranny mode;
2) Drive around the waterbox
3) Stage
4) Floor the gas and release the brake at the last yellow
... wait 12 seconds ...
5) Slow down after the end of the 1/4

Nice run Ben! I noticed in the second pass you were running a different set of rear tires. What's the specs on those? size?

Mickey Thompson ET drag radials on 17" Bogart rims. The combo was discovered by a different SL65 racer-- and they work very well indeed.

Hey JR,
My car is almost identical to RENNtechV12's, and he's actually the one who pointed me to the current wheel/tire combo I'm using after his 10 sec passes. I believe his 10 sec pass was in cool weather with some better gas than we get here in NorCal, which is AFAICT all that stands between me and my own 10-sec slip

One of the irritating things is that the SL is now too fast for NHRA rules. The track official threatened to boot me for running too quickly after my *warmup* pass was 11.46 @ 122 and I had to do 1/8th mile passes for most of the night to avoid running below 11.50. They relaxed once they figured out that the SL wasn't going to go sideways halfway down the track, and I was able to get my 11.3 pass.

And for the roadcourse -- the only thing as fun as the R1 was the open-wheel Russell racing cars I've piloted around Infineon. That beats drag racing, hands down.

Ben,
.
what a great time to be alive and fortunate enough to own cars like these.. i just love the fact that MB makes cars this fast.. Of course, Porsche and BMW etc. are cool as well.. Good job at the drag strip.. love the vids...
.
you are right about open wheel race cars around a race course... i did the Barber Formula racers.. what a blast.. almost as much fun as my track bikes.. i am on my third gixxer 1000.. my 2005 kicks butt at Road America..... unbelievable bang for the buck..
.
something else you might like:

keep up the good work..
