I blew a Sl55 off the road in my Cls55. The SL didnt even have a chance. It might be my mods that did the dirty work: MKB package 620 HP at 5800 rpm, torque 800 at 4190 rpm
My mods: High performance camshafts, exhaust headers s/s,
compressor pulley, bigger throttle with optimized air intake duct,
control unit for EGS, adaption of ECU incl. V-max delimiter,
Limited slip differential 45%
modified transmission, reinforcement transmission,
shorter transmission ratio ( I = 2,82 ) for a better acceleration rate

The E would be faster than the SL55 in stock form even though you would get the sensation in the SL that it is stronger especially the exhaust sound. The MB site states that they are equivalent in 0-60 times but diffrent road tests have shown the E at 4.2 seconds.

My wife has a 2006 E55 and I have a 2005 SL55. The E is a sleeper but it does go like a bat out of hell ( I like to refer to it as a German GTO). That is what made me do the Renntech mods to the SL since your wife can't have a car faster than your car. Now the SL goes like a bat out of hell as well.

E55 and SL55 are even fast............. Today I was was driven in the E55 and my wife was driven in the SL and we started by the stoplicht. When the licht goes green, we pushed te the throttle exactly on the same time and the run until 140 km/h (86,99 mls/h) gone exactly the same.

One comment; the SL55 was in the 'S' mode and the E55 in the 'M' mode. In the 'M' mode the cars make a little more rmp before up when changing gear!

Amgboy1,

There is no doubt your sl55 is quick but you stated that it has 800 ftlbs of torque when actually thats measured in NM. Your torque works out to be around 590 at the crank, bit of a difference. I guess thats why the E55 hangs with ya.
