@AMGlover: Where did I write that the taillights on that car are non-AMG? These are indeed the facelifted 2007 AMG taillights, but it's not my car. These are just pics from this forum. I did upgrade everything on my 2003 55 AMG (except for the mirrors, which changed on model 2004). I can post some pics of my car on Friday.

The pics above were meant to demonstrate the "general changes" from MY06 to MY07 on the front and on the rear of the car.

grill??

Is the 2007 sl55/65 grill the same as the cl63 grill? I saw one at the dealer today and the star was out but the rest was sunk in with a mesh blk around it, looked really good. My car has a big plastic/glass look.

I guess you have the Distronic on your car then. All distronic MBs have the plastic/glass front in the grille, while the non-distronic cars have the old-skool star.

Sharkster, do you know if the 07 SL550 grilles are different than the 07 SL55 in the size, etc? I know one had black fins and the other gray.....but what I found out and what you also stated, the SL550 will not fit on a pre-2007 car without doing the bumper too....although one member here swears he did it and it bolted right in.

Yes. The mirrors were changed when MB changed the CD COMAND to DVD COMAND (MY 05?). It's only a very small change which is almost not visible to people not really looking for the difference. The R230 got the mirrors from the R171 (new SLK). But you really need to look close to see the difference. You mainly see it when comparing the lenses of the turn signal in the mirror.

The size and shape of the grille from a standard 2007 SL is identical to the one used on 2007 AMG SLs. The only difference is that the 2007 AMG grille is painted glossy black.

You can potentially put a 2007 grille on 2003-2006 model, but I doubt that it would look nice. I know of that member who says that he didn't upgrade the bumper, but I haven't seen any pics of his car yet. When my dealer tried to make the 2007 grille fit my SL 55, it really looked "wrong" with the old bumper, so I ordered the 2007 bumper too.

I think about it like this: If you retrofit the facelift then you should go the whole way (incl. the bumper, the grille, the 3rd brake light and the new AMG taillights). If you're not ready to go the whole way, then you shouldn't touch it at all and leave it just as it is IMHO.

I think that it's quite unexpensive to upgrade the whole thing, since MB only changed so few parts. I wouldn't have upgraded if they'd also changed the rear bumper, headlamps, sideskirts, exhaust etc. (like they usually do).

I will post some pics of my ride tomorrow (or on the weekend latest,... dependig on the weather).

I agree, it would look funny. I would like to see close up pics of BMS' car. It's not hard to post pics, save them on a photosite and post the links.

In order to fully clarify the "YES IT FITS - NO IT DOESN'T FIT" issue, I suggest the following:

Someone to responsibly advise (and if possible to post close-up pics), which are the bumpers' differences (if any) between following models:

-SL (2003..2006)
-SL (2003..2006 with AMG sport package)

-SL550 (2007)
-SL550 (2007 with AMG sport package)

-SL55 (2003..2006)
-SL55 (2007)

Regarding the grille, I guess that there are only 2 versions, 4-slat & 3-slat one..

So... here are some pics of my 2003 SL 55 with retrofitted 2007 facelift. I've updated the grille and the bumper and it looks really perfect. Sorry for the bad quality pics of my mobile phone cam, but I'm not really a big photo guy.

I've also updated the entire rear look and the updated AMG SL taillights are an easy install. Also the clear third brake light fits right in. I can post pics of the rear view of my car too, but it simply looks like the rear view of the 2007 AMG posted above. Let me know if you want to see them anyway.

BMS, why don't you post pics of the 2007 grille on your SL? I'm curious how it looks. When I had it on mine, I thought that it just didn't look right... That's why I updated the bumper too.

But maybe you like the look of the 2007 grille with the old bumper. I'm just not so sure whether the grille alone could be installed safely.

Why don't you put up some pics?

Yeah, I want to see these too. He didn't back you up....he actually refuted what you said....saying there is a huge gap if you install the 2007 on a non-2007 if you don't also change the bumper.

07 SL55 grille (black) w/o distronic #230-880-14-83 list $505.40
07 SL550 grille (silver) w/o distronic #230-880-10-83 list $653.60

Don't ask me why the SL550 grille is more expensive

This part number includes all the lower grilles and even the fog lights. In Germany that set costs around 800 Euro (incl. German VAT). I would highly recommend to order the whole bumper set through that part number rather than ordering all the parts alone, since the latter would be way more expensive. However, the grille is not included. The AMG grille's (painted glossy black with chrom strips) part number is: A2308802083.
The 2007 AMG grille is around 250 Euro (excl. VAT) here in Germany. I see that my part# differs a little from the one meegle has given above. Maybe there's a slight difference between the German and the US version, since I'm sure that my part# for the AMG grille is correct.

IMHO, I believe the "old style" grill looks better. I guess I don't really care for the "chrome". Just my .02.
