SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL 55 versus Lamborghini and Ferrari
They chose the following cars:
SL 55
Lamborghini Murcielago
Prorsche GT2
Aston Martin Vanquish
Fearrari Maranello.
The test was performed at the Nardo test track, in Italy.
The results were SL first with 30 seconds, then came the Lamborghini after roughly one second, followed by the Porsche, that took 10 seconds more, and the Vanquish.
Ferrari came last and took more that 60 seconds, which is more than twice the time it took for the SL 55 to reach 300 Kilometres per hour!!!!
Some serious errors here.

PS: Don't get me wrong, the SL55 is a bloody amazing car.

In fact they fiund out that ALL similar engines has a greater than 500 hp output, so they retroactivelly rerated it to 500 horse power.

David: no, not the hp ratings. Those test numbers have been contested again and again and in the end, they've been refuted.

Those are amazing numbers for a car that weights 4300 lbs. and gives you that much luxury.
by whom? Have you got any data or magazine articles? Auto Motor und Sport is a very reliable magazine!!
Special thanks to Blocktrader for sending me the DVD withthe whole program!
Thank yu for the link, however when i click on in, despite my T1 connection, the screen blank and nothig happens!
Plus it is not surprising that the SL55 can acheive very good numbers at very high speeds (150+ mph) since it has less drag than the other cars compared. The fact that it has less drag probably compromises downforce, but since the SL55 is so heavy, it will be quite stable at high speeds. Another factor could be the gearing. Cars like the Porsche, Lambo, and 575 are sports car that have gearing optimized for road (or circuits) at speeds much less than 150mph. How often can you exceed 150mph on a track, except on an oval? Mercedes probably designed the SL55 with getting record breaking high speed acceleration in mind, and those are not the priorities of its rivals.
There is a good thread in the bmwm5 forums that talks about this.
