I had this happen on my SL500. You need a new brake light switch. It's a two position switch: the first position is for the brake lights, and the second position is the shift lock. It is up by the brake pedal, took my dealer about 15 min. to change.

Sometimes the repair will be a new gear shifter - solution
I have the plastic part in stock and I can ship worldwide. Log on to www.monoglobal.com.au to view and order the part.

Internal plastic lever is there to prevent children from inadvertedly moving the gearstick lever out of Park. Removing the lever may cause your car to roll away down a hill with your kids inside.

Choose from original plastic or high strength aluminum. Repairs can be done by any reputable MBZ shop in about an hour or two. No need for recoding with Star Diagnosis.

My SL55 once in a while its stuck in Park.
Today in AM had to pull harder to remove it from park, after runing the car for 20 minutes did return to my home and shifter was smooth to be change.

Anyone had bought the above parts with good results?
Which of the ESM Gear Selector Levers will be the correct one for a 2005 SL55 AMG?.

Parts are easy to fit by reputable Mercedes workshop. I have many satisfied customers worldwide. Your car will most likely need the GB3004 but I have an easyfinder on my website that you can compare your broken one to. Also offering 3 day UPS express post to the US for AU$80.00.

I had the same issue about 4 months ago. It started slowly struggling with shifting from Park and after about three weeks one day it just would not shift out. I had it towed to MB and they replaced the whole shifter assembly. Thank god it was under warranty because labor and parts were about $800+

First, I did call/spoke with Mitchell Porritt from Monoglobal. He was very helpful and did email instructions FAST on how to remove the shifter and check the ESM Gear Selector. VERY nice guy!!!

After opening/checking the shifter ESM, did found out that Gear Selector was INTACT, not BROKEN. No matter what I did order a new GB3004 Gear Selector from Monoglobal.

Tomorrow will reinstall the shifter and call the MB dealer to get the brake switch.

Ok I just got my car a month ago and same as everyone else in here. My shifter is also stuck. Ok, so I know what to replace and I'm already in the first few stages of the repair. But now, I'm again stuck on how to remove the panel on the center console. All the screws are out and I just need to remove the panel so I can remove the actual shifter assembly. The panel is actually ready to be removed and just sitting there. I already pulled it backwards like it should be removed. But how in the world do you remove the panel w/o shifting the gear to neutral, since it's stuck in "Park"? The shift knob is off but the actual shaft is in the way. Please help me.

Could be the brake switch, or could be the plastic clip. Mine was the solidnoid switch inside the shift module which was intermitting. Sometimes it worked, other times I was stuck in park. To get it out of park I had to pull on the shifter and force it out of park. It's painful to do, but you have no choice. Don't worry as MB replaces the complete shift module.

Unfortunately, now my car is in the shop. They attempted to bypass the solenoid, but was unsuccessful. Since they cannot remove the panel on the center console because the shaft of the shifter is blocking it. They will have to saw off the shaft in order to free the shifter assembly. My $200.00 quick fix will now tun into a $900.00 and up. repair. Ugh! Lesson learned. If you haven't upgraded your ESM link to an aluminum, upgrade it ASAP or if your shifter is starting to get stuck in park. get if fixed before it's too late.
