Nice. There are actually at least two other older versions of the McLaren F1 car vs. road cars.

I believe the first one was made in the early/mid 80's; with Niki Lauda driving the McLaren race car, James Hunt in a Ford Sierra, and John Watson in some lesser Ford car. (The McLaren was using the Ford Cosworth engine at the time.)

The next one was made in the mid/late 90's. Like this one, it had David Coulthard driving the McLaren Mercedes, but pitted against the E50 AMG and an A-class.

UCSDxB0i, your are great!

Thanks a lot! How did you manage to do that? I've been trying to find a way to save that movie clip for ages.

Thanks again!

Too Young To Drive
Heh, that's the prob with the SL55 AMG. Great on the straights, slow around the bends.

ummm not really

dNA3D

The SL55 AMG beat a sport kitted Porsche 911 around a race track in Britain and was voted the better handler on the road. It was in an Autocar magazine issue 2 or 3 weeks ago of the Britains best drivers car. It also beat a whole lot of cars and ended up number 6 if I'm not mistaken. Even the new Ferrari 575 Maranello. The latter took the whole test team by surprise and not so much that it beat it but also by the wide margin it beat it both on road and on racetrack.

So in conclusion, it might not be the best but don't mistake it for a slouch around corners. Beating a 911 says quite a lot!!!

Wow, beats a Ferrari and a Porsche. Yea, I've seen the info about Britains best drivers cars, but does that test compare handling only, or does it include driveability, straight line performance.. Oh wait, stupid question. The Lamborghini Murcielagio came in first. I don't really think any Lamborghini could come near to the classifcation of being a daily driver.

SL55 AMG
Agree with that, the Lamborghini is an icon, a great car, but I couldn't live with it which is why Mercedes have got the SL55 exactly right, all the performance and practicality I need in a great package. And for those occasions when I need more space, I'm beginning to think I should take a look at the Porsche Cayenne, the ML doesn't do it for me.
