Tough choice: SL65 or 997 TT for daily driver?

Have a tough choice to make ,have wife's permission and have to decide within a week:
a brand new ,no miles ,'06 SL65 Black on Black,or
also new ,'07 997 TT tip,Silver with Black.
Both have the same sell price ($145k)
Car is supposed to serve as a daily driver in all kinds of weather.
What would you do?

I'd go for the 997 because you already have a Mercedes.

The Porshce will hold its value much much much..... better then the SL65. Get a tiptronic 997TT and you will be styling. I wish Porsche would get the Keyless Go as an option. My only complaint. Good Luck!

Silly question, 997TT hands down. Save yourself 60k in depreciation, not to mention the TT is gorgeous, tre' rare and actually works in bad weather.

even though an SL65 would be a more comfortable DD...the 997 has a nice ride and its awd hence usable in any weather condition and more so it wont depreciate, as others have said, by atleast 40k within a year...
997 = winner

I'd like to add, depreciation is a non issue, since it would be a 24 mo lease through my Company, both cars involve the same monthly and up front expense.

If its luxury you're for, the SL is the way to go. Comfi ride, drop top, speed and all around car. If you want a bumpy fun sporty ride... TT is the way to go. You might get tired of driving the TT everyday though. If you think thats the case, go with the SL. Personally, I would go with the TT because there are a lot of SLs out there. have you looked at the H1 or F250 at all??

997TT w/o doubt for all-seasons commute duty.

Own both '07 SL65 and 997TT Tip....'07 65 is notably better than ancient '06 in terms of ABC/steering precision/trac; upgraded/thicker steering wheel/paddleshifters; nanotech paint (useful vs swirls on blk), cf trim, etc etc, but '07 65 weak mid-range traction is concerning even in CA's winter rains, let alone ex-CA settings.....

On dry pavement, def prefer '07 65 (not an ancient '06) vs 997TT....65 has no apparent turbo lag, much stronger 60-120MPH accel, more interesting exhaust note and a commute-relevant 24gall fuel tank (vs 997TT's <18gall tank....and both cars get 10MPG in urban/spirited/cold-weather driving).....but for rain weather commuting I'm keeping 997TT until Spr07.....and next winter, plan to use CL63 as my rain weather commuter.....

Besides, a 997TT Tip is much cheaper/more "liquid" to lease and trade-in next Spr for CL63 than getting stuck w/an illiquid 65 for more than 6-12mos, esp an already-obsolete '06....and even '07 SL65 already looks ancient vs CL63/65 in terms of headlight systems/airbag&safety systems/integral seats/infotainment systems, etc etc.....

Looks like you live in Lake Forest. If you have to drive the car in winter weather and if you can live with the trunk configuration, the 997 is probably the better bet.

Faced with a similar choice but wanting a larger trunk (to carry my hockey bag) and having another car for winter driving, I went with the SL, although 55 not 65.

My biggest piece of advice, though, would be to test drive both at length and enjoy the process of picking one or the other. They are both incredible in many ways.

Not only would I feel stupid for owning an '06 SL after reading this but I would be embarrassed telling ppl I'm thinking about purchasing one... Donno is they have an '07 H1 but I know they have the '07 F250. '06 H1 should be pretty decent though...

Seeing how it can barely launch without spinning violently in the DRY....... Can we all just admit this is NOT a RAIN friendly car ?

I have an S550 - and if i turn even SLIGHTLY too quickly around a corner - i skid sideways.

F250's have similar problems, H1's do not. FYI

F250 ? Hummer H1 wont skid in rain because I dont believe it has that kinda Push out from the rear wheels. To spin sideways, ud require that kinda thrust coming from the rear wheels - Never drove a Hummer H1 - but i dont believe it has the same sort of thrust as an S550 and up...........

Well said. I had no idea the '07s were that far superior to the '06 cars. Is there a comprehensive list of changes/upgrades somewhere?
