SAD.
The conclusions SL55 owners are coming to are not the same as the conclusions of professional automotive reviewers and publications. SLK55 was compared plenty of times to SL55, including an all-out track test by fifth gear. Obviously you would expect the SL55 owners to prefer their car, since that is what they bought, but claims that "SLK55 is a girl's car" are unsubstantiated and do not represent the opinion of the majority of car enthusiasts, nor that of people who drove drove the SLK. Even Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear bought an SLK55 after test-driving, and if you know anything about him, he would certainly never buy something "girly". What I'm trying to say is don't pass your personal opinion as fact.

Clarkson also owns or at least owned a SL55. He even featured it on the show, and was agast when they stole his keys and allowed the stig to take it around the test track. The stance of the SLK is just somewhat feminine. Not that that is a bad thing, I think all jaguars also look very feminine, though an XKR is obviously not. I also see miata's as very "girly" however a family friend had his sent out to california and replaced the engine with a chevy big block. It's loud, angry, and super fast, but it's still a miata, and i still think it looks kinda "girly." I don't really see what more you want from us. You made your point, defended it, now go on, buy the SLK and enjoy it. It's a phenominal car, have fun. But honestly, all this is completely unnecessary. If we all wanted an SLK we would have gotten one and saved ourselves thousands of dollars. However, we found something more satisfying in owning a SL55. As entertaining as all this has been, I'm over it, goodbye...

Yes, Clarkson owns/owned both SL55 and SLK55. I do believe he recently sold his SL55 and got a Ferrari F430 though....

Yea he has or has had some amazing cars. The SL, the SLK, the Ford GT, the list goes on. I really wish we got Top Gear in the states, one of my favorite shows

He chronicled his problems with his GT though, and it was great. He had something wrong with his alarm system. The car kept reporting itself stolen. Clarkson would get calls throughout the day, asking if he knew where his car was. It was hilarious, I believe he was actually driving it one time when he was informed his vehicle was stolen. Great show...and yes it appears you have very much in common.

Yup, had a lot of problems with the extra stuff put on. I have about 1500 miles on mine, and NO PROBLEMS.

MB: E55 AMG, CL550, E3004M Cab + other makes :)
I don't get this argument, even though it happens all the time. The SLK is still an SLK, and the SL is still an SL. Some people just want the SL over the SLK regardless of what everybody's personal opinions are.

My opinion? SLK is girly, much like how a miata is girly. Obviously both are capable..... but the SLK is a small little car that MB just threw the AMG motor/tuning on to compete with other small, fast roadsters and to participate in that market segment...
Meanwhile the SL has been around as one of the flagship touring cars from MB.
WHich would most people rather have? The SL.

Typical "supra v. ferrari" "civic vs. _____" "sports car vs. fast truck" etc.

Everyone has their opinions.

I could not agree more! That is why I did not even comment. It is insane to even try to compare an SLK to an SL. Totally different league of car. Mercedes prices it at HALF of an SL's price for a reason. Customers are not "getting over" on Mercedes buy getting an SLK!
