SL65 vs VIPER TT
Ok guys time to chime in with any thoughts or first hand knowledge. I have the sl65 and I am thinking of getting rid of it for a tt viper or a viper with the novi blower. I have seen some dynos and the novi blower takes a stock car to about 600rwhp and well if I do the heffner turbos it would be like 765rwhp. Any one driven any of the modded vipers? I saw wood house dodge does in house blowers, moton suspension etc. I just want something fast and I know the viper would walk even a tuned 65amg.

I just got rid of my 05' Copperhead Viper. I had it sent to Woodhouse and they put on a supercharger, race logic traction control, and a few other things. It put down 630 to the wheels. I DID NOT DO any internal work, everything else was stock except for the Corsa exhaust. I still had the cats. Mark Jorgensen is the man over there, he took care of me all the way from pick up to drop off and afterwards. I would say wait for the 08', the rumor mill is saying 600 ponies without forced induction. Good Luck!

Hmmm .. nice post, now you've got me thinking about it too lol
What are the differances in the Vipers? I recall reading recently there are differant engines and one has more HP?
Any idea what the differances between say 2004-2006 years are?
How much are the forced induction kits, turbo and supercharger respectively?

I would think it all depends on what you want out of a car. Vipers can be made to pretty much beat anything out there speed wise but daily drivability will be nothing close to what you get from the SL. The SL is the best mix of speed, comfort, interior functions and top down driving you can get. Renntech your 65 and you can retain all of the above and run with most anything on the road. How often does a 1000HP viper pull up next to you? Personally if I was just looking for a speed demon I think I would go with a FordGT with some mods. At least then you would have a rare car as well.

As a daily driver??? After owning a SL65??
You better go drive one. Let me know how your kidneys are doing after a couple of miles on a less than perfect road.
As a race car... enjoy!

I agree...how could you ever consider trading in aSL65 for a viper??
It may be marginally faster then the SL, but it is a sh*tbox in comparison and would suck as a daily driver.
But if you just want a car to go out an play with and beat the hell out....well then I completely understand

Viper is a cool car in addition to the SL65, but certainly not as a replacement. Like others said, Viper was never intended to be a daily driver, its a weekend/track car. And in 2008, Viper will have 600hp, so wait until then.

I use mine as a daily driver. Although I am much different from many people and like to have a car that is pretty uncomfortable and harsh for daily driving so I feel like I am in a race car 24/7.
I do not think most people can handle the Viper as a daily driver. Coming from an SL would make you feel like crap all day in a Viper. Most people just use them on weekends as a 2nd car.
The new Viper for 2008 is 600HP. The 2003-2006 Vipers are 510HP. There is no 2007 Model. The 2008 is identical to the 2003-2006 except for 90 more HP and a different hood and side airbags. If you are looking to mod the car. Say supercharger or Twin Turbo. Do not wait for the 2008. There is not much out for that car yet, and the compression is higher.
I plan on Supercharging my Viper soon. A TT would be awesome, but it gets very expensive and almost to fast if you dare to drive the car on the road. A friend of mine has a TT Viper with 1200HP and the thing is just crazy. You can't not even floor the car on the highway going 80mph. The car would just go sideways. With the supercharger I plan on having around 750-800HP and should still be ok to use on the street if i still want to use it as a daily driver.
I must admit, driving this car is unlike many cars out there. Ferraris and Lambos are amazing. But the viper is just so raw it makes you smile and feel like you are in a race car every time you drive it. Its the most fun you can have on 4 wheels!

Thank you for all of your replies but I think some of you think this is my daily car. I have a work car that I use every day and the sl only comes out every now and then. It has been parked for a long time now and we just got like 15 inches of snow last week so it is not going any where any time soon.

I know the TT gets up in price very quick I think the kit installed was like 36k and I dont think that includes clutch upgrades or anything. I did drive an 06 viper when I had my e55 and was a bit let down with the power. I expected it to be a rocket and it wasnt so if I do get one then it needs the novi blower at least. I am still looking around to see what I decide but I am with you on I was going to get the 06 and not the 08 for 90hp a blower can fix that asap.

I may be qualified to weigh in on this thread, given my history ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
My $.02: hands down, the SRT Viper was a hoot to drive but had nothing on the SL65 for all-around useability. The SRT was loud, crude, fast as heck (well, once I supercharged it to 820 BHP anyway) and drew plenty of attention, but it was also tiring to drive for more than 2 hours at a time, and was a weekend toy rather than a car. The SL does everything so well -- dragstrip terror, dress party transportation, tanning salon -- and asks nothing in return. I ended up driving the SL far more than the Viper, and sold the Viper.

05 SL 55 AMG, 01 Turbusa/8.43 @ 183..1/4 mi.
Over 1025 RWHP.........supposedly, you could not floor the car until you were well into 3rd gear without losing control...........

Warranty-be-damed, I guess.

There is/are at least one or two folks that have bought a new Ford GT and immediately dumped the stock super-charger and had a custom set of twin turbos installed that ended up making the car almost totally undrivable.
