lease deals
please tell me what you think is the right number for a 36 or 39 month no-money-down lease for both the SL550 and SL55.
what are the approximate residuals.
thanks.

If going through MB financial...just make sure they are using the correct residual and best money factor and then get as much off the MSRP as possible.....actual payment depends on discount and options.

I just visited a local MB dealer and they told me that MB corporate was supporting a 69% residual on SL's. That seemed hard to believe, but you should ask your dealer.

not really nuts.. for a 36 or 39 month zero down lease, they are taking a big risk (depending on your credit.. as if you don't make payments.. they lose $10k-$20k if they have to auction off your car.) not to mention, if the SL really is at the end of the current design in 2010-11, the current body style is going to drop like crazy.. and not to mention, there won't be many buyers of it near the end of the body cycle as well.. also you forgot to include taxes.. tax on a $135k car = $145k or so..
so in the current situation, $2,700 isn't completely unreasonable.. you may be able to sway a hundred or two hundred dollars with a different lender, but I wouldn't expect to receive anything under $2,500 a month.

Get the the numbers they quote you and insert them into this:
http://www.leaseguide.com/calc.htm
If I was buying it you can bet your bottom dollar I would get the car for under 2k a month (maybe a little $ down though).....here in LA we have something like 12 dealers...if you do your research and go from dealer to dealer, there is a HUGE difference in discounts off MSRP on 100k+ cars. HUGE! Unless of course it is a very in demand or low production model like the new CL etc.

Cy...
for this car, accountants say we have to lease.
MB dealers all over S FL are autonation stores, effectively creating an oligopoly. frankly, i'm awaiting the day some smart attys charge autonation with price fixing in regional markets. that day is coming.

i did the math and it looks like at 50% residual, they're trying to get 12% interest. i'd say that's nuts.
anybody, please correct me if i'm wrong: lease tax in FL is based on the depreciation, not the MSRP.
if based on depreciation, then the tax looks like ~150/monthly for 36 months.
again, please correct any errors.
thanks.

Used/CPO lease?
Hey Guys...new member here...just starting to work on deciding which AMG model to go for. Of course, the SL is my first choice...but cost is a factor.
Does anybody know if used or CPO vehicles can be leased through M-B? If so, does it make sense to go for a lease on a 1 or 2 year old model?
Also, and this probably isn't the right place for this question, but are there any appreciable mechanical differences between an '05/'06 and the new '07 models?
Thanks!

I was looking into the 07 Sl550 & Sl55last Summer. My bets quote for SL550 was 0 down, $1050/mon + tax, 27mon lease, Sl55 will be around $2000/mon for 36mon

Actually, I don't think it is. I would bet it is the non-sports package though. There were a couple around here last winter that were $1k for 27-39 month leases.

He is talking about the current 2007 SL550 model, "right now"
No car selling for $100,000 with no factory discounts, and 0 down, can do $1,000 a month for a lease.
Think about it. In 2 1/3 Years, you are saying the "wholesale auction" value of the SL (which will most likely be a new body style by then) will be $72,000? (which means the retail will be about $80,000+)

possibly found an SL...
the GF has a business associate with whom we're both friends. the guy's dad is a dealer. they made an invitation to the detroit auto show black-tie, but work wouldn't permit a quick trip there and back. whatever...
anyway, she received a call last night from the dad, who informed her about a 2006 500 for a sick purchase price. when i say sick, i mean absolutely S-I-C-K. it's new, entirely kosher, and she's thinking about it overnight.
although the 2007 is a much better performer, i advised that she forgo the extra zoom for the steal. she could always trade up later, right?

Keep in mind, that 6 months ago, dealers were selling brand new 2006 SL500s for less than $80,000. I'd think now, 6 months later, the value of the 2006 is several thousand less. Is it less than $75,000 and brand new? If not, it probably isn't "that" great of a deal considering how much the dealers were discounting the SL500s after the SL550 came out.

yes, far less than that. in reality, it's a concessionary deal based upon a business relationship. the car's practically disposable a the price.

deal's off...
an intermediary became a problem, so the GF just said bye-bye. she was bummed for about a moment...until she realized she was back in the 55 market.
the bright side is that i don't have to bring down my CLK55. the dark side is that she's now back to SL55 hunting.
so, where's the best SL hunting these days?
