SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL55 (stock) owners : just a quick question?
Its a 2001 Spider 360.
We were at the same place the other night having a drink.
Everyone was bragging that his Ferrari would kill my SL55.
Shocked everyone when he was smart enough to say.
No. Bills SL55 will hurt me bad. I can do the canyon with him.
But flat out he eats me up. And his is about ready for the engine
rebuild. He is at 25K miles. No warranty. And he has 2 new kids.
Time to sell his toy.
Not to mention the down time. This was a really big decision when I bought my SL55. The local dealer here has a great service center and gets my car back to me in a matter of 1-2 days. In the high end market I really think the AMG cars are the way to go. I may buy a Ferrari or Lambo some day but it will be new and I will sell it before the warranty is expired.
A great example as to why the depreciation on an SL55 is really not that bad. 10k a year in depreciation gets me a warranty. That same 10k a year would be spent on repairs on a used Ferrari bought at the same price as a new SL55, so it is tit for tat.
2 problems though:
1) Warranty (read above), no external modifications allowed under terms and conditions of warranty (in bulgaria).
2) Availability... nearest Kleemann is around 500km away and they are in Greece, so not gonna happen

I´m thinking the depreciation on a new SL 55 is more like 50 grand in the first 2 years

It is hard to compare the two cars. From a 40 mph roll the SL feels faster because of a stronger kick in the backside. Putting them side by side on the highway proved something different. From 40 mph, each in third, they pull almost exactly the same and shift a few feet forward and back as each changes gears (6 speed on the TT). At 140 the 997TT was ever so slightly pulling on the SL, but not even a car length ahead.

Otherwise SL55 + 997TT =
Otherwise SL55 + 997TT + 997GT3 RS =
