Arrow Help Me !!! Wheel Vote!

OK People...

PLEASE HELP ME! I'm obsolutely going out of my mind!

I'm picking up my dream car the 2nd Weekend in March. A Silver/Charcoal w/ Pano, SL55 with 5,000mi on it. It will never be driven in the rain, It will be pampered, and waxed constantly. The undercarriage will be cleaned on a lift. I must tell you all I have severe OCD!

My Problem is I can't decide on the wheels, and I want all your opinions. I have very limited funds so I can't afford to make a mistake. Wheels are SO important, they can make or break the car. You can't really tell from pictures, and there is no way for me to see all these on Silver SL's...

I have narrowed it down to 3 different wheels And there are 3 pictures in order.

1) HRE 449R's... They only come in 19" so that is that decision... I like them because they are understated, and look close to the stock AMG turbines... Just bigger, and nicer... I was all set on these then I thought, "what if they look like Giant fans!!!" EEEEK!

2) HRE 547... Now even harder 19" or 20" And Polished Or Painted Center w/Polished Lip? The 547's look radical... But they are So open... Not much to them... I tend to go towards silver painted centers... But I saw a picture, and it looks a little flat. If it were a Black car it would be hands down Polished, but I don't know on the Silver car. And the Other Problem with these and the next Wheel... 19" or 20" ?... The roads here in the NorthEast are really Bad... People bend wheels left and right... I like the look of the 20" but I want to be able to enjoy the car without cringing on every bump. And I've never even seen 20's on an SL... Too Big?

3) The old standard... Brabus Monoblock VI's 2Pc. Brushed. Maybe a Little boring? But I've seen them on an actual car, and they always look nice, You see them a lot though...

Give Me Your Vote People.

Thanks!

I'd go with the Brabus in 20" . HRE's are nice but EVERYBODY with MB's has them. I see 'em more than the Monoblocks. I'm in market for wheels myself and I'm leaning towards the monoblocks. A guy in the SLR forum has them on his car and it makes the car look 10 times better IMO.

Good Luck

Here's an idea, Renntech is coming out with a 5 spoke wheel in about 5 weeks. Maybe we should wait to see how it looks like. I think i can get the designs soon....

Go for the Brabus wheels, especially the Monoblock V1 always a classic design and would look subtle on the SL even in 20" size.

Dave,

Congratulations to you and Robert for installing the RT IC pump!

On another note, i think the 547R is the nicest design for the SL.

That particular design allows the AMG calipers to be seen. Also, i think the design makes the wheel to look bigger than it actually is.

Normally I would say Brabus, but those rims are now considered old school. The HREs are hottt now. Pull the trigger.

Definitely the HRE 547's.

IMO, those turbine wheels do nothing for the look of the car at all. In fact, I think they're ugly!

The Monoblocks are just ok - they don't have the aggressive look of a five spoke wheel like the 547.

do not go w/ brabus.
they are weak and heavy.
go w/ 547r's in 20 in black (to match the roof) w/ chrome lip (polish is a PIA, trust me). im on my 2nd set of hre's, i went w/ chrome lip 2nd time around, i took the 1st set apart to chrome the lip after i realized i ****ed up. polish is no good.

btw,
do not get the 597's, they look similar but imo hre ****ed them up, there is much less curvature to the spokes and noe they look just like any other 5 split spoke wheel

I don't know. YOU DON'T SOUND SURE OF YOURSELF! LOL!

No seriously it seems people are leaning toward the HRE 547... only one likes my play on the stock look with the 449R's

I'm just not sure about them w/o seeing them on the car in person... I don't want polished centers on the silver car, and I think from this picture it just looks too open not enough reflections... Too Flat. But I guess it's between these and the MB VI Pc.

Thanks,

Royd

I think you are probably right the Brabus MB VI 2Pc. are getting a little long in the tooth...

But, You see they just put them on an SLR... They can't be THAT over the hill.

I'm leaning toward them not because I think they look UNREAL... But because it's the only wheel I have actually seen on the car in person, and I know it looks ok.

Sigh... This is killing me.

You know your not half wrong... I saw those bight silver 2 Pc AMG's and they are pretty nice... You don't see them a lot... But you do see that style a lot... And on all kinds of Benz's...

And $1,300ea for AMG's wheels... Which are like stock, in my opinion is a bit much...

Thing that nice about the MonoBlocks are they curve back as the spokes go out to the rim... So you get more of a deep dish look... The AMG'S are flat as plates.

Those Daytona up above are pretty nice too... I'd like to see 'em in silver.

Thanks,

RoydRage

Go with the Brabus. The only cars that can have them are mbs. If you want a different look than the brushed, powdercoat them black. I actually like the HRE 841s more than the 547s.

547's hands down! Polished looks great on silver, but you better be ready to clean them A LOT!!! Its a pita to keep clean. The 547's show off those nice rotors and calipers.
