(We will wait and see what the tax-preparer has to say.....Capital-Gains notwithstanding.)

A fine his-hers combo............and she deserves it.......after 26 years of putting up with my "shenanigans", like 3 Harleys/2 Yamahas/2 Kawisakis/1 Big-*** Suzuki, and a 125KTM.........
......
And now a SL-55 with a couple of mods........
She will kick my **** in the turny-stuff...........she can drive.
........She deserves it
(I do not do that with the Keys to the SL-55)
What if my 16 year old son takes her car out.............

AMG Power and Teenagers are not a good mix.
There was a 18 year old girl locally here that took her dads
Porsche out and got killed on Holloween.
She was going over 100 and hit a toll booth.
The pictures are the worst. There is a thread about it in Off topic.

This will be a "tough" nut to crack.....but I will think about it....if necessary........the car can wait.
(At least until he reaches the "age of accoutibility" to drive a fast car......)
I'm the referee in this fight............

Hiding your own keys doesn't solve the problem if your children have friends with access to a temptingly fast car. Your children can just as easily be injured or killed in a car driven by other people's children.
They only real solution is to convince your children they don't want to be a driver or passenger in a car that's being driven too fast. If you succeed in teaching that point, you won't have to worry too much about where you left the keys.
(Steps off soapbox.)

Agreed,.............the only variable in this equation is the specific definition of just what "a car that's being driven too fast" means in real-world terms.
From my own personal experiences when I was young, my expectations of what the car was capable of doing far exceeded the acutal product......
we crashed because we were fooling ourselves into believing that the '58 Chevy 348 Impala would even begin to handle.........

If your kid really wants to take the car, he will figure some way to take it.
And if he can learn to respect the car (and his parents), then he'll never take it without permission.
If you know the latter to be true, then you got nothing to worry about!
engine to 120 Plus MPH was the norm. Brakes. We dont need
Brakes. Those drum brakes were usless at 100+ MPH.
But the roads were way more open then. We were very stupid
at this age as all kids can and will be.
Parenting. When my son was 16. I did not trust him with a
Honda Civic. Kids at 16 are just not ready for a high performance car.
I dont care how much "Parenting" you do. But now he is 21.
He has been going to school and doing OK. He is thnking about law enforcement as a career. I trust him with my SL55 keys.
He still is not taking my SL without permission. But I trust him.
High performance cars are like handguns. If a individual is trained
and mature it can work. But in the hands of an untrained and compulsive
child its a disaster waiting to happen. Keys in safe. NO PROBLEM !!!

Spin it, smoke the tires, get up on 2 wheels, the whole thing.
If he gets his yaya's out in a safe environment, he's less likely to lose control when he's messin' around without you.
He's gonna' do it, you might as well prepare him.
