at House of Import where i bought my car, there is a new SL55 AMG available in the showroom. Nobody has ordered that car.

The price for it $190k because of the dealer markup, yes you heard me $190k......DAMN is that a price from HELL.

Who can borrow US$110K to me, I can get one in Canada for you. Sell it at $150K and we'll split the profit!!!
Who cares about Canadian cars cannot go to the US if you can save a whopping $40K!!! That is provided that you cant buy one at MSRP from any dealers of course.

Was it House of Import or House of Helliciously Overpriced Vechicles???...Damn..190K for a SL is way too much.. Who in their right mind will pay that much? The dealer will laughing all the way to the bank whenever they convince some sad soul that the car is worth 190K? No justification at all. With 190K, I would

1. downpayment of a house
2. buy M5 + CL coupe and have some loot leftover for a vacation
3. etc..
4. etc..

not worth debating about..geez..some dealers will try to get away with anything..

If u look around there are lots of SL55 american cars for sale in the after market with no miles, they are offered around 165-170k. The web page below will sell u any SL55 u want 50k over sticker and every month u want to wait the price goes down 5k.

http://gwwtcomm.tripod.com/buythisbenz/id12.html

With the market and economy like this I do not think the premium will stay this high, but it is a special car similiar to the Ferrari 360 Spyder and those prices are still at a premium all though the prices have recently started to slide. In my opinion the SL55 kicks the **** out of the prancing horse in all areas except for sex appeal. The SL55 is a much more usuable car, and for me would be my first choice for sure.

As of two weeks ago, there's one sitting on the showroom floor of a bay area dealership for... $218,000!!! You get Brabus wheels and body kit ( valued at $25,000 as per the dealer's option sticker) included in the "deal".

btw when i was there, they had just sold another Black SL55 (it was ordered). The rims they come with are 18' thin spoke AMG. I thought the SL55 comes with those multi spoke AMG rims.

190k hah people will not pay
i've seen plenty of sl55's selling for ridiculous prices and they are still sitting in showrooms..they might be lucky to get rid of 1 but the average shmoe rather wait or buy something else for 190k,
after all its only a car.

u are absolutely correct. Even my sales, who just got his E500 sport, think they will not be able to sell the SL55.

the most expensive SL55 we sold here was about 148.000€ with all inclusive, even the 19" AMG wheels and a 300km/h vMax limiter.
for that extra money you can do a nice holiday in germany with lots of "autobahn-testing"

If u are going to spend that much money over sticker it puts u in the range of the new Bentley GT with 550 hp and 650 pounds torque, with Audi`s 4 wheel drive and Bentleys luxury and status for 150k, coming out mid 03.

what I dont' understand is why peple are not getting SL's 55 here in Switzerland at 5% discount under list, with delivery measured in DAYS (you want to download the price list? go to www.mercedes.ch) and then ship them to the US (cost: 3K$ air) and spend roughly 25K $ to meet US specs: there is NO WAIT and it is much cheaper.

Because resale value is non-existant and you will hae a very hard time having the car serviced (assuming MB will even do it to non-NA cars) meaning you will most likely pay out of pocket. Frankly, the idea of a minimal or even non-existant warranty on a car this complicated and prone to errors (there's no way MB has them all sorted out yet) is not comforting. On top of that, I wouldn't want to have to try to sell a Euro car, just look at the Ferrari euro import market - soft to non-existant.

Buyers want security.

after reading so many horror stories
florida is the worse state to buy hi end exotic cars
the laws in florida are ridiculous.. actually there are no laws for car buyers. I know so many people that lost deposits on cars and never got it back.

What laws are those?

What were the situations whereby your people lost their deposits? If you have a contract, and a deposit, then I am confused.

i read that dealers dont want a deposit because of Florida law or something to do about potential law suits. Apparently if a dealer takes a deposit it implies that they will deliver you a car. (Maybe someone in Florida can explain this better than I have.) Shelton told me they had 300-400 people on the spider list in 2000. Shelton knew they would never get that many cars. Shelton doesn't take a deposit until they actually order the car. Like I said, things may have changed recently.

US $190k is about what you pay for a non mark-up, totally stock SL55 AMG in Australia. In Asia, US $190k for a SL55 AMG would be considered an absolute bargain!

My freind got his C240 at House of Import for $3000 less than I paid at Flecher Jones Mercedez at Newport Beach (exactly same configuration, and his car is silver which cost more than black!!)...
