Traded my S600 for SL55 and GL450

I finally decided that although the S600 is a 510 horsepower rocket, it is a rocket that also is a family vehicle, the sports car part is lacking. So I split the two worlds and bought a 2007 SL55 ( a rocket)and a GL 450 great off road and family vehicle) and I am very happy, let me hear your thoughts on this. I will post pics soon.

Good choice, two cars are always better than one...did you have to come out of pocket on the deal? Plus, you can always add some mods to the 55 to make even more fun.

Must have ,SL55 is very close to S600 in price,so GL had to be paid for extra.

Yeah!! you guys are right, it was a costly decision, but oh well you only live once, isn't that what owning a Mercedes is all about anyways.

Just curious, did you mean G500?, cause as far as i know there is no GL500, only the 450 and the 320 CDI (v-6 diesel), although a GL 550 based on the S class engine is rumored in the future.

'07 SL55 is no slouch either, has some nice updates vs '06 and also handles a bit better then 65.

You are right I could've, I even had a deal on the table for an 06 SL65 here are the reasons for my decision.
1. Financing for an 06 SL65 was not that great since it is used and there is a reason you can get an 06 SL65 for the same money, its called depreciation V-12 cars depreciate more than V-8s Don't know why, but they do.
2. For a car that expensive I like to be the first one to beat on my cars, not after someone else beat on it and threw it away.
3. the SL55 is a better handling and more nimble feeling car. ( I drove both)
4. SL65 4.2 0-60 SL55 4.4 0-60 (not a big differance don't let the horsepower numbers fool you ) although 60-100 SL65 has the edge with all its torque.
5. and as someone said the SL55 for 07 has some nice upgrades, such as steering feel, higher speed supercharger more horsepower and torque than previous model SL55.

Don't get me wrong I am not downing the SL65 that thing is the mother of all SL cars ,If I could get a new one I would have, but I personally didn't think it was worth the extra 60 grand for .2 seconds ( the price of another car basically)

by far the SL55, the S600 takes too long to kick in , the sound and the feel of the SL is so much sportier and not as floaty as the S class. Its may have speed but it doesn't satisfy the other sport car senses such as sound, feel, tightness, position to the ground. I never felt as confident doing 100 and over in the S class as I have in previous sports cars I've owned, including Porsche 911 Turbo, Ferrari 360.

Dude, some people like to buy new cars. Chill with the SL65 lol

Personally, I would get the SL65 but for the extra hp (100 over the 500 that most people never use anyway) I wouldn't think someone is crazy for getting a new SL55 in lieu of a slightly used SL65.

In Europe, MB names the 5,5 ltr. '500' and for the USA
'550'!

So all the 550´s are named 500 (I think in the rest of the world) and have the same 5,5 ltr. engine!

Why?

Maybe the MB people think that 'FIVE HUNDRED' sounds better than 'five hundred fifty'.........

Wow, I sure did, I got it for a steal because they are changing ownership and they needed to move it. JC Cabanos is my salesman, and the manager goerge knows me well cause i bought like 300,000 dollars worth of cars from him in like 3 months. lol
