WOW! looks like a fun install...would have loved to have been around to see this one...
wish you could have dyno'd it...have you ever dyno'd the SLR cams after an install to see the actual gains?

What a great looking engine! Oh, wait...that's my engine!
The SLR cams were my second mod. A VRP 80mm throttle body was the first. Motorwerks handled both installations and did a bang-up job.
I also need to send kudos to Jakpro1, who went where no modder had gone before and did the first (to my knowledge) SLR cam install:
...and VRUS, who ordered the SLR cams for me.
Thanks, guys!
The car is noticeably stronger than stock, although as Sunman mentioned, I did not have it dynoed so I dont' have any numbers to share. The general thinking from other folks who have done the SLR cam mod is +20 HP, +20 TQ, as Sunman also mentioned.

was there a alteration of the cam gear sensor needed? there was talk by jakpro that the install required a change to the sensor to allow the different cam gear. thanks

sorry for my confusion but, did you use the slr cam gears or the stock cam gears with the slr cams. jakpro said he had to change to the slr cam gears hence the problem with the cam sensor being hit by the new gear. so all i need is to change the cams and the other parts stay from existing stock in the car?
or wait, i see the spacer on the slr cam? this compensates for the sensor clearance?

By using the SLR cam gears, a small (0.050") spacer on one cam, and a slight (0.050") grind on the other cam, the cam sensor is in the correct position.
I'd be glad to send you Chromikey's instructions if you're interested in reading a few more details.

Thanks, Sunil. I'm lovin' the car!
I'll PM you about the dyno. I have a meeting in Commerce Twp later in the month. If I could schedule the dyno around the meeting, I'd be willing to pop in.

Jerry,
I remember you telling me about your experience with cams from the past. This cam upgrade does not effect driveability at all. It still feels like a sl55 and there is no rough idle. Idle is still very smooth.

got answers on spacer and just want to clarify one more thing. are both the camshafts and cam gears identical for both cylinder banks or is there a left and right to a set? is there one one cam part number and one gear number? i realize you have to alter one gear on passenger side and use spacer on drivers side, correct?
thanks
thanks

the cam shafts are different on each side. Your have to actually machine the surface of the passanger side cam where the cam gear meets the camshaft. You don't have to machine the gear itself. The drivers side simply needs a spacer.
