One more option (flame suit on and fastened) may be the Audi Q7...of course the 12-cylinder TDi would be a must.
I agree it is one of those "love it or hate it" vehicles, but it seems like it could get the job done...Good luck.

I experienced the same. I have a Jeep with Blizzaks and a C32 w/LSD and Blizzaks on during the winter. The Benz drove better during the snow. The only thing the Jeep was great at was ground clearance, but that isn't an issue in Chicago.

To answer the original poster, you'll miss the power with the S550 so I would suggest-
Cayenne Turbo, Audi S8, ML63, G55.
Range Rover SC, Range Rover Sport SC are two other options if they'll be fast enough.

Another vote for ML63, from a daily drive Range Rover Sport S/C owner. There is one in my family, which I get to drive quite often as it belongs to my old man and it absolutely slaughters my RRS. I was seriously contemplating doing a trade but the idea of having 2 identical cars in family annoyed me too much.

Quick opinion: have you thought of simply parking in the street? The Range would have to be the one to do that, of course.
I would just sell the RR, keep the SL and brave the winter. Can't be that bad. An S600 with sport tires is not much different, and I had a good winter with it.
Good thing about the parking, you do not need two cars, anyway.

Really? That's surprising as I find Range Rovers to be very well suited to inclement weather.

you obv have soem money to afford to drie a range and an SL why don;t you store the range in the summer and the sl in the winter, it can;t run more than a few thousand dollars a year

and you can't drop your top in the Range Rover
Car storage is probably cheaper than another parking spot would be.

Over the last 10 years there has not been a winter in Chicago/Milwaukee/Minneapolis area that has had more than 3-4 days per season of weather that would be considered "days you could not drive your car" and would suspect you could "get around" if you had to. The bigger wild-card to me appears to be the requirment to consolidate to a single stall/1-car.

I'm not really understanding your relation between being accomplished and asking for suggestions on a vehicle for my specific needs. I guess one of my traits that has allowed me to be accomplished is the fact that I'm always open to others suggestions. Anyway, I've got a few cars in mind...but the thread was intended to get others opinions so I could take a look at the suggested vehicles and choose from the variety of suggestions and personal previous thoughts. I've taken everyone's suggestions into account and am planning on spending the next couple of weekends deciding on the best compromise possible.
Regarding the 3 bedroom idea...it's more than what I care for. Since it's just me, I was simply looking for a condo in a great location that would provide two bedrooms...one for my personal bedroom and one for an at-home office. Not to mention that the price difference didn't make sense for the additional square footage from a 2 bedroom to a 3 bedroom (I bought my 2br/2bath for 670k including 1 parking spot while 3bed/3bath were starting at 1.4m excluding any parking spots (parking spots run for approximately 60k a piece and are purchased separately)). Also thought about renting a spot in the same building, but it would have to be either under the table (owners cannot rent their properties throughout their 1st year after closing) or in a separate building....I'm not very fond of the idea of renting a spot for 800/mo in a separate building. City will also not allow a lift for my parking spot. Bottom line...I'll have one parking spot to deal with.
