SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL55 and Range Rover into one car
I originally got the SL55 for the few months that we actually get great weather...and the RR for the rest of the time. But now I'm forced to decide on a car that would fit both needs. Knowing how crazy the weather can get in Chicago, what do you guys think would be a great "in between" car? Considering the fact that I'm 24, I also want a "young guy's" car that'll be enjoyed.
I'm open to all sorts of opinions. Have looked at all options such as R63, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Continental GT, S550 4Matic, Audi S8. Just wondering what you guys would decide if put into my situation.

4 doors with speed, power and handling though, I think those are the best choices .. and with the SL's weight you're really not losing too much in performance I don't think (if I'm wrong I'm certain those with more hands on knowledge of both cars will weigh in)
The new S's are extremely nice to me though .. I'll be going with one in a year or two.

Would love to get the S63/65, but I already know what it's going to be like in the snow...which is why I was looking at the S550 4Matic instead. Don't wanna be stuck with an S63/65 and not be able to drive it while it's heavily snowing. Same goes with the CLS63 and E63.
1) Keep the SL, buy a set of 18x8.5 wheels for all four corners, mount a set of 245/40R18 snow tires on the wheels, and use the SL with the snow tires during the winter. Winter tires will help more than AWD because they also help with braking and cornering whereas AWD just helps with acceleration.
2) Buy one of the RS Audi's but still do the summer and winter tire thing.
3) AWD Porsche 911 but still do the summer and winter tire thing.

I've had two ML's so far (430/500) and was about to get a ML63. I figured I wanted a convertible for summer and would get the 63 closer to winter this year.
I would say it's the closest thing to a Range and a SL baby. You get much better handling with the ML than the range and your 0-60 time doesn't suffer either.
Not to mention it turns a lot of heads.
Everyone can say this and that but from experience go with the ML63. At least get a test drive lined up and see what I mean.

ML turns a lot of heads? are you sure....? first time heard something like this...
in my region, only housewives and old men are driving ML... for a 24 year old, i would choose cayenne turbo or range rover sport for sure...
u can consider maserati 4-seater.... or bentley flying spur, g55, e63, s65 are all good choices... i dun understand what's so hard to decide...
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

Really, had no problems to speak of,even though there were some of the roughest snowfalls in years.
My point is,you have to put Winter rubber on any car, they all turn, brake the same regardless of how many wheels are driven.
AWD would give only better traction at takeoff.
Anyways, CEO Alex, you can just leave the SL55 with me in Barrington for when you don't want to use it...as long as I get to take it out once in a while?
With good winter tires, though, driving gets a lot easier.
A while back, I had a 3/4 ton RWD GMC pickup truck as my daily driver. My-oh-my, talk about a vehicle where the rear wheels wanted to break loose! 4,400 lbs vehicle weight, 60% of which was on the front axle. Less than 2,000 lbs on the drive axle.
I drove that pickup daily through seven consecutive Michigan winters and never once had a white knuckle moment, let alone slid off the road. It was the tires.

I also suppose you'll have to take it from another 24 year old that none of your 4-seater choices are on par with what our age group is looking for.
Try these instead of your picks... Bentley GT/GTC, CLK63, (I'll give it to you on the G55 though).
Still though. A ML63 or Cayenne Turbo S are your best bets for that kind of weather. I'm not a Porshe fanboy so I'll still stick with my previous answer.
Regarding the 3 bedroom idea...it's more than what I care for. Since it's just me, I was simply looking for a condo in a great location that would provide two bedrooms...one for my personal bedroom and one for an at-home office. Not to mention that the price difference didn't make sense for the additional square footage from a 2 bedroom to a 3 bedroom (I bought my 2br/2bath for 670k including 1 parking spot while 3bed/3bath were starting at 1.4m excluding any parking spots (parking spots run for approximately 60k a piece and are purchased separately)). Also thought about renting a spot in the same building, but it would have to be either under the table (owners cannot rent their properties throughout their 1st year after closing) or in a separate building....I'm not very fond of the idea of renting a spot for 800/mo in a separate building. City will also not allow a lift for my parking spot. Bottom line...I'll have one parking spot to deal with.

Who said anything about "success" ?
