Traded My M6 for an '05 SL65
Well I finally took the plunge. I've been dreaming of an SL since the new model came out. I almost bought one last year but, was seduced by the yet to be released M6. I preordered and received one of the first in Canada. I tried for almost a year to get used to the SMG transmission. I hated it. Now it's sold and I just bought a Black/Black 2005 SL65 with 5,000 miles and all options from a dealer in Chicago and am anxiously awaiting delivery. This is my first MB. I'm not sure if I'll do anything to it, other than a Reus stereo upgrade. What do you suggest?
I've learned alot by monitoring these forums and it's helped my decision.

Congrads. Anything other than an SL65 after an M6 coupe and you'd have been disappointed. You've swapped a beautiful, exclusive and superfast car for an even more beautiful and exclusive one.
A 600bhp V12 is the only way to get over a 500bhp V10.
Enjoy.

[QUOTE=Jakpro1;2239011]Welcome.....to the Dark Side of The Force.
SL65M6
THANKS for all the support.
I do feel like I've converted to the other side of the force. I spent alot of time on the M6board and there really is an us and them mentality. MB owners seem to do that less.

That's a hard one for me. I try to keep my cars immaculate. I swore never to get a black car while living on the wet coast. But, I do plan on driving it most of the time. Life's too short.

Congratulations, it is very beautiful! What would a new one cost Canadian? I'm sure you got a great deal and at 5,000 miles it is brand new. A slightly pre-owned 65 AMG is really probably one of the best values you can find if you can afford it. I also like the dark wood in yours as opposed to the carbon fiber I've seen in many. Enjoy!

I'm also considering the carbon fiber trim, but not sure. To change now would cost about $3,500. Any other opinions?

The cost of a 2005 SL65 fully loaded including all taxes and fees was $230,000! OUCH! Hell ya I feel like I got a good deal. I'm thinking about a S65 to replace the 745.

Since you already have a TTV12, consider the facelifted 760. Much beter looking the 745, as is the A8W12 which would suit your inclement weather perfectly. V12s make great second hand buys.

Any plans to mod? 12k gets you 700bhp and 900lb/ft with the strengthened transmission pkg and CF airbox.

<Borat voice>NICE!
By any chance was your M6 white? I saw one when I drove up to Vancouver a few months ago. I grew up in Vancouver then moved to Chicago in '96 and am now back in the PNW (WA state).
Which dealer did you get it from? Was it an ebay auction? Lastly, how tricky is it to get the car shipped to you (not to mention bringing it across the border)?
Did you see it in person or have it locally inspected first? I've always thought about buying cars from out of state but I can't justify flying out and seeing every car before buying. I guess buying a car that's almost new and under factor warranty will allay most of those fears.
