EVOTECH Mercedes AMG
It is confirmed: SL 63 coming

From www.worldcarfans.com

Article published on July 13th 2007
Quote
"As Mercedes has always kept engines of the SL up to date, we do not expect much to change under the bonnet. Stuttgart will continue to offer the SL 350 (V6, 272 bhp), SL 500 (V8, 388 bhp) and SL 600 (V12, 517 bhp). The 500-bhp SL 55 AMG, however, will be replaced by the more powerful SL 63 AMG returning 525 bhp. The even hotter SL 65 AMG with no less than 612 bhp will remain on offer, to" Unquote

C63S coupe, X5M
525bhp

The facelift is still dissapointing though, I think it's dumb to update the front and leave the rear (if thats what ends up happening anyway).

Something on 4 wheels..
So any idea when that is going to happen? March 2008 as an '2009 SL63'?

A few months ago, I watched a German car-show and during a comparison, they mentioned an 'SL63' just as a short side-note. I mailed a few questions to AMG Germany concerning that car but - as I thought - never got an answer...

I think that article was referring to non-USA models. They call the 550 a 500 everywhere but in the USA.

That article said it would appear in 2011. It could be a 2012 model. I just hope it takes long enough for me to gather up the coin to get a current body style SL before it changes. The good news, for me, is that the MBUSA web site lists a 2008 SL55. Glad to see that motor still available.

Interesting development though. That would be a second facelift with a bit of a new style. This never (to my knowledge) happened before @ Mercedes.

Are you sure the article is referring to 2011? I thought the attached pictures would show a facelift of the current model:

'Mercedes is preparing their SL sports-roadster once again before it’s going to be replaced by an all-new model in 2011'

It's correct though that we will still see the 55-engine for the MY2008.

2010 CL65
SL sales post-mid-cycle revision are dismal....too profitable a car for MB to lose sales w/a dead model line....

My speculation (w/no non-public info) is new-tech SL will arrive next Summer (note '08s arrived early w/no changes)....what would be spectacular, if available at launch, is an SL63 Black Series, based upon this new-tech platform w/a fixed carbon fiber roof...would prob weigh 4000lbs and IMO would be only car that could supersede CL63 as best overall driver's car today....

05 SL 55 AMG, 01 Turbusa/8.43 @ 183..1/4 mi.
Red face

2011 is a long ways off, car-development-wise...........a lot can happen in 5 years. Not just at Mercedes, but in other arenas as well.

Just an observation.

For those of you who look at the Dupont Registry...........I have had my eye on a little "diamond-in-the-rough" in the bottom right hand corner of page 176 of the August 07 Issue........(at least I did until I realized the minimum bid was well into the upper six-figure bracket.)

Too RicH For Me...........

(But I would jump on it for 150K)

The facelifted car will arrive next spring as a 2009 model. I told everyone that a SL63 was coming. The 55 motor, glorious as it is, is on the way out. The SLK63 is next. 2011 is the next all-new SL. All will be revealed in Sept at the Frankfurt auto show.

you will see a SL 63 Black Series at the end of the cycle. Hopefully a full carbon fiber roof will be one of the features.

Cheers!!

G55 & SLK55
I think the new 2nd facelift SL is quiet distinctive and has the likes of the 280 SL Pagoda which differed in comparison to the other SL's at its time.

The CLS headlights are very nice on an SL, cant wait to see a Red SL600 with Panoromic roof.

The 09 half *** face lift doesn't do much for me. 2011s should be nice but many more competitive models from other manufacturers will be out then as well.

Only thing that excites me now is the upcoming SLR replacement from AMG.

They will need to build the SLC to get me to buy another AMG. And keep it on a diet too. Glad I have a 55 though. Really can't do a whole lot to get more power from the 63. Not without spending a ton of dough.

I have to say - Correct, you are. I think I misquoted the article. I agree with you in the assessment that the photo is a face lift before the re-style. Let's see, since the 2008 models are just about to be released, it is probably a 2009 model. That would give MB 3 years to produce the face lifted versdions before the re-style. Seems like a waste to me, especially since I prefer the current version.

Black series may do some good on the SLK but IMHO would be a waste on the SL, unless you wanted it just for the looks. The car is just too darn heavy.

Soooooooo...

This doesn't really "CONFIRM" anything. The picture without the black covering is obviously photoshopped and they can't even get the models right since they aren't continuing the SL 500.

None of this makes any sense. Thanks for the spy pics but an SL 63?.. come on now, what's the point in that?! Let's see here, SL 550, SL 600, SL 55 AMG, SL 65 AMG... let's just sqqqqqeeeze in SL 63 here. No.

Anyway, when I read an article involving MB AMG's and the word "reckon" in the same paragraph I have to pass it off as BS.
