i just bought an 04' SL55 AMG and was wondering the uniqueness and exclusiveness of this car. Is there a way to find how many SL55's produced for the 2004 model year? and with colour options and such? Also if its possible to find the build number say,# 124 of 2323 ???

For the 2004 model year in the US there were 5,217 made. Sorry but I can't help you with the other stats.

They can be found for all AMG`s on the AMG Private Lounge Website.
These are US delivered units. They dont release world wide numbers.

2005=1542

What are the Production numbers for 2003?

I was wondering if the 1st year 2003 had as large a production as 2004.

I also think that 5,200 cars (US only) for only one year (2004) is a huge number for an exotic car.

A production of 5,200 cars is probably higher then all of the Vipers, Ferraris, and Lambos combined that were built in 2004.

I thought the SL55 was rare and exclusive but with over 10,000 cars just in the US that aint the case. At least spare parts will be around in the future

I agree,
I'm a little discouraged...I love my car to death but i thought there was more exclusiveness to it than persons above average pocketbook lol, it also discourages me that a Ford Mustang Cobra has every little detail documented production numbers by date, colour and model (vert or non) and the build number...and on top of that they even get a plaqueable document with their name on it certifing they are the owner, although i think its for the owners association...

It's a commodity, they (MB, BMW, Porsche) will make what they can sell.

Ferrari's and Lambo's are more limited by production capacity.

MB has no such limit.

I am happy with only 1500 or so cars of my build.

As far as comparing a SL55 to a Mustang. Thats a mistake on this board and especially here on the AMG R230 area.
The Mustang is and will always be just a FORD POS.
The one my Ex had was just a disaster. It did not last even 60K miles
when everything just started falling apart. Who cares about the stinking paperwork. I want a car I can drive and enjoy. Not Fix or Repair Daily.

I wasn't comparing cars in any way, just comparing info. I find it odd that AMG's are not documented in every aspect and issued authencity paperwork considering how easiy it is ethestically to copy the AMG. I guess it might just be me but i really enjoy that type of stuff...makes for good garage memorabilia.

04 sl55amg, 04 H2, 02 corvette Z06, 01 bmw 530i(Sold), E60 M5 (507hp)
04 sl55 would probably go for around 60 - 70K nowadays. If your going for exclusivity, one probably needs to spend upwards in the 150 - 200K+ range. Such as a ford GT, if you were lucky enough to buy one at msrp. I love my 04. Have had it now for almost 4 years and still love driving it. I would'nt consider it quite a "collectible" but then again, Its hard for me to sell anyone I've bought. I Should have bought that damn GT! Haha!
