**Project SL55**

I have not been this excited about a project like this in a very long time. I wish I could mod and hook up all my cars like this SL55, but it really takes a lot of time, energy, reading, researching, knowing the right parts for your own needs and what you want your car to be capable of, a ton of patience, a great deal of experience, the right shop to do all the work, and of course money! This is my Royal Machine.

And, everyone needs a partner and best friend like Cylinder Head, who just keeps encouraging you to take your car to the next level. Thanks, now I'm going to own your M5 all day long! Lol...

BTW....a lil secret, CHs M5 will be our next Royal Machine.....

I must say that I learned a great deal from messing around with my E55. I never had the chance to completely finish my E55 project, and I'm just glad that I'm able to do it right on the SL55.

My car went to Broadway Performance in Passaic, NJ. John Nouri, the owner and close friend of mine is going to do all the work for me. Him and his crew down there are a really terrific bunch of guys who really know how to put some amazing machines together. John put my car on a mustang dyno for the baseline on Monday morning because there was a huge line waiting for the dynojet. After all the work is done, we are going to dyno the car again on the same mustang dno to see how much power actually increased. We are also going to dyno on a dynojet as well.

Here's a list of parts going on the SL55:

Kleemann ECU/Pulley
Kleemann Headers
Kleemann Sport Cats
Kleemann IC Pump upgrade
Kleemann LSD
New Spark Plugs
New Belts
K&N Air Filters
Evosport Phenolic Spacers
Evosport Lightweight Floating Rotors
Pagid Brake Pads
Stainless Steel Brake Lines
Lowering Links
Resonator Deletes
Iforged Daytonas
(Black Center, Polished Lips)
19x9 FR 19x11 RR
Bridgestone RE050As
255/35-19 FR 305/30-19 RR
SL65 AMG front bumper
Painted Clear Corners
Rear Trunk Lip Spoiler
Painted Grille,
Painted Hood Gills and Fender Gills

I will post pics and give updates as soon as possible!

Update with pics

Hey guys,

After getting back to Jersey yesterday, I decided to go check on my car and to see the progress made this week. I was really excited to see it.

I wished I was able to document and photo each and every step of the way, but since I was away in LA and I really don't have the time to do that, John at Broadway did manage to take some pics for me.

So here goes:

1. Headers and cats installed and fabricated onto the rest of the exhaust.
2. New spark plugs installed.
3. Differential was sent out to Kleemann in Colorado; returned yesterday and installed. Rear end and everything else back in place.
4. ECU was sent out to Kleemann; returned yesterday.
5. Kleemann IC pumjp upgrade installed.
6. Evosport lightweight floating rotors installed.
7. Pagid brake pads and stainless steel lines installed.
8. Bled the brakes.
9. Polished dirty exhaust tips.
10. SL65 bumper, rear lip, and corners painted and ready for install.

What needs to be done:

1. Evosport phenolic spacers.
2. K&N air filters.
3. Kleemann ECU plugged back.
4. Front grille, hood and fender gills painted black.
5. SL65 bumper, mesh and fogs.
6. Lowering links.
7. Still waiting for wheels and tires!

BTW....Just to let you guys know, the Evosport rotors saved me 38lbs compared to the stock rotors!

Go to this link to see the pics....I posted in the E55

kleeman aint exactly the less expensive way to go. get asp pulley and 80 TB for 2007 sl55 from the dealer. you are paying for the kleeman name on top of these parts.

update

I went to go see the car again yesterday. It's coming a long really nice. I was a moron and forgot to bring the camera.

Progress:

1. Phenolic spacers installed
2. K&N filters and stock airbox installed
3. Grille, and all gills painted black and installed
4. ECU and pulley on the car
5. Lowering links in

What needs to be done:

1. Install front bumper with mesh and fog lights
2. Still waiting for wheels and tires......sigh

Hopefully I'll here the beast start up today. The bumper should be on later. If I have time I'll go check it out again tonight. Dyno day tomorrow! I gotta remember to bring my camera, take pics and record the sound and dyno.

Then I'll get my baby back!

is it actually for the fun doing all this work? or is it just for the sake of making the car different from others or finding something to do and spend money on? if the car is some japanese sport car, then i can understand but i don't understand why doing all that for high end cars like SL55.... i guess u are racing it on track or something?

I've had a lot of fun modding my SL55. It also now runs a little faster, which is fine, too.

Of course it's fun! It's always fun. Aside from my family, work and friends, this is what I love most. I'm doing all this not to be different. If i wanted to be different I would have gotten something else with my money. I'm sure you see a bunch of SLs everyday. This isn't just a hobby to me. It's a lifestyle and it makes me happy. And, I just love the idea of modding and making something better and faster.

Update

Hi guys,

Sorry I haven't updated you guys, but I was super busy and the weather was dreadful the past couple of days. Well, I finally got her back Wednesday!!!

She sounds exactly how I imagined. A true German muscle car. The rumbling gave me goosebumps. Under acceleration and WOT, it sounds absolutely monstrous. Like I said, the weather has been pretty horrendous so I really didn't push my baby to the limit....YET....Haven't really tested the LSD or brakes and of course how fast she goes....haha...But let me tell you this guys...She is hella torquey now, so much more than before!

The weather is getting better now, so I will take some pics later and post them. Too bad the wheels aren't here yet. The 65 bumper looks so bada$$. I am meeting up with Cylinder Head later on tonight and I'm gonna let him drive my beast, and hopefully we can find somewhere to do some comparisons with his M5.

I'll give you guys a full write up of everything ASAP

Update

SL65 bumper finally on, for the last and final time. Fitment was a pain and all the little parts that we had to order. It wasn't perfect the first time, and the guys at Broadway Performance worked super hard to get the fitment as perfect as possible this time. Thanks to John and his crew and Broadway for their hard work.

The factory SL65 AMG look really sets off this car now, especailly in black. The pictures do not do it justice. CH was driving in front of me and I could see him staring into his rearview mirror and side mirrors the whole time. After we parked he told me it looked so mean.

I'm in love with this bumper. I really think it retains the factory look, but makes it that much more aggressive. I didn't want to go to wild with the exterior and I'm so happy I made this choice. It's so sexy and classy.

hey sunny55, your sl looks good with the new bumper! i want to upgrade my 05' sl500 with the 07' sl55 front bumper. like you, i think it gives it a more aggressive yet factory look.

what problems did you have putting on the new bumper? it looks like you had to change the grille. what other parts did you have to replace?

Actually, the grille was painted black. I didn't have to get a new grille. There was a little cutting involved with the bumper where the grille is. The problems we had with the bumper was the fact that some parts, such as the clips and the headlight washers, there are a few springs in there too, and other parts the impact things inside the bumper were not the same parts from the SL55 bumper. When I ordered from the parts department at Mercedes, there were some parts that didn't fit correctly as we thought it would be the same for the SL65 bumper.

After all the correct parts got here, the fitment was great. And you are absolutley right, it makes it a little more aggressive.

Wait...the 07 SL55 bumper is different than the SL65 bumper. The 03-06 sl55 bumper is also different than the 07 sl55 bumper. There is the 030 package for the SL55 and I'm pretty sure that bumper they use is the same as the SL65 bumper. Just to clear things up.
