The Mother of Freak occurances with an Sl55

I apologize for the long post. I was driving on a 4 lane major street here is So. Cal when a can of Green Rustoleum Marking paint falls from some guy's truck. Cars are swerving left and right to avoid the can as it is rolling in the street and it's high pressure contents spraying everywhere. It probably sprayed 10 cars until it was flattened. I thought I was going to have a heart attack after I stopped and looked at the front of the car.

Fortunately I was able to get most of the paint off except that which is on the bumper behind the black mesh. Can anyone tell me how to take of the black mesh without breaking it? It appears to flex under pressure, however I am concerned that I may break it. Thanks in advance.

Hopefully you got there license plate? I'd make them buy you a new front bumper/grill and whatever else is needed.

People need to make sure **** doesn't fall off there car, it's dangerous and down right stupid.

Good luck with it.

Angry Ahhhhhhh

OMG! I can't believe it!

How bout taping masking off the whole bumper, and grill, and using some automotive quality Satin black Spray Paint... As a way to get rid of the Green on the mesh itself.

Sorry that sucks...

Good Luck,

RoydRage

I'm sorry that you got the front blasted with paint. I had a bush fall off a landscape truck and take out my front grill!

If you look inside the grill, you will be able to see the fasteners and get it off so that you can clean it and the radiators.

Good luck..........

Hi Dino,

I took off the grill, but I can't figure how to take off the mesh safely. Am I being too gentile with it? Are there clips that hold the mesh in also? How do just take out the mesh? Thanks for your help.

Wow! I distrust most insurance companies. I took pictures of the car and of the street since paint was everywhere. I also filed a police report in the event I had to file an insurance claim.

It does seem like an obstacle course many times. I was once driving on surface streets and could not avoid hitting a pothole. Well it was so deep that it took a chunk out of my tire and scratched the rim. I have now learned to keep everything in it's proper perspective, along with keeping my detail guy on speed dial. This is just one of the hazards of driving in L.A.

I had a problem with the front grill in that I hit a bird and it pushed the grill in, I used the hook of a wire coat hanger to pop out the pushed in section. Fortunately I did not need to remove it totally, however I found the coat hanger gave me something to hold onto it. Maybe a hint in trying to remove it because you can not get behind it to pull it out.

When you say front grill, do you mean black mesh? I thought the grill was the slatted front. Just wanting to make sure I am clear. Please advise.

Thanks.

I don't mean to laugh but this is such a CRAZY story it just made crack up.

Sorry about your car, I was on the 5 North once and had a tire explode off a truck about 200' in front of me and two lanes to my right - a large tire shred flew up in the air and landed right in front of my car taking out the front end...

G'luck w/ repairs! Like I said... a amazing crazy story!

Wow...I thought I had bad luck. Car in front of me threw up some truck retread that took out my left Xenon and dented the hood ($3,500) and that was about 2 months after getting a nice chip in the windshield from a tossed rock. Guess I get some respite that mines an old E55....woulda really torqued me if I had an SL.
