Just picked up SL55 today, few questions!
Hello all! Ive been a lurker for a while now.. Knew I wanted an AMG sometime in the future and I finally got one (03 SL55). Ive been doing some research (even before I bought it) on some light mods and had a few questions. First and foremost, I was wondering if theres a tuner/installer here in Houston (as I would prefer to have all the parts professionally installed).
Things I am considering:
1) Intercooler pump
2) 3rd brakelight (smoked)
3) K&N intake filters
4) Blinder M45 (laser jammer)
5) Whistler DE-3500 (laser/radar detector)
6) Upgrade speakers)
Questions I have:
1) Where can I get a navi dvd? (yup, didnt come with it)
a) Will a newer year model DVD work? (saw some on eBay)
2) Where can I get the smoked taillight?
3) What is the upgraded "cooler"?
4) What does a straight pipe SL55 sound like? (sounded just right for my XJR)
5) How many speakers does this car have and what size are they?

I will personally vouch for Sunil. He is very knowledgeable and professional. You couldn't be in a better spot than Houston. Lucky you. He has helped me out with my SL many times. I now have the national record for a SL55 with the help and advice of Sunil (and the fine folks at Motorwerks). He will also hook you up with Reus Audio for your audio needs. Speaking of that, where are my speaker upgrades, Sunil? Good luck with your SL.

Sure does look like im in luck! Ill call tomorrow! BTW, im filling out the form and thinking about personalized license plate ideas and was wondering if anyone had any good ones? My XJR had "XJR FTW" so ive already written "AMG FTW" as my primary choice and still have room for two more incase the first two are taken..

Welcome! You are gonna love the SL55. It is a brilliant all around sports/GT car.
You don't have a DVD nav. It is CD based, and your dealer should be able to get you a set of CDs for it.
K&Ns are great. It will definitely help your car breathe better. I suggest them on all of our cars that we tune the ECUs on.....and it really does make a difference.
I have had my '03 since new, so if you have any questions or challenges, let me know.....

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I went in and got the nav cd today so thats taken care of. All I need now is to get my Keyless Go situated.. I replaced the battery but that wasnt it.

I would bet that you need another visit to the dealer to get a keyless go card. It would be like ordering a key....you would need the title or registration to show that you are the owner.
Since it seems like you are into putting a bit more power in the car, you may want to check out our ECU work. It really 'free's' things up!

P/N 33-2859 $ 34.00 Ea. You just cant beat that price. You can hear your engine breathing easier. And with a supercharged engine it sounds different as well. Very easy to self install in just a few minutes.

I went and visited Sunil today and talked about some mods. Great guy, great place.
It looks like the Reus system is out of the question, but all the other mods sound good. Does anyone know what the stock factory speaker sizes are? Id like to just get some aftermarket speakers (such as Infinity Kappas, had them in one of my previous cars) to replace the stock ones.
