I would hope that the new rear diffuser on the rear will help with the overall aerodynamics of the car. The car could benefit from additional rear downforce since I always felt the SL needed it when I was behind the wheel of one.

Were you describing SL55 as weak on downforce?

In my expce, have found SL55 to be most stable (aerodynamics/chassis/steering stability) car (vs any Porsche/Ferrari) on any high-speed fwy, esp w/imperfect pavement, hills, and cross-winds....closest rival on this front IMO is CL63...

Were tire P's/treads in good shape? Have noticed remarkable diffces in high-speed stability w/subtle diffces in tire P....

New pics of the front end look good on the AMG model...wish they could have changed a bit more of the rest of the car though.

CL really resembles the CLS. Wonder if MB is trying to make all the models look alike. C class looks like the S class. These are all good looking cars but I'm concerned about the future SL based on the 2009 restyle.

It could have been the tires now that you mention it. I can't believe that I didn't think of that before. I agree that my CL63 is the most stable car I have ever owned, especially with 030 package.

However, I can't see how the new rear diffuser can't help the SL63 with its handling and looks. It just seems more practical than previous versions. Though, it would help if it had more underbody work done, such as the SLR.

My comment on the spoiler is personal taste. I like a clean design and the original is normally the best. I hate it when the manufactures start adding bits like the old custom car kits you had when you were a kid. Next they will put a eagle decal on the hood.

Here are a few more photos:

I'm definitely trading my SL55 in for the SL63 030, despite my initial plans for a CL63 030 because this SL63 just looks so much better.

The 2009 SL63 is extremely gorgeous a beauty that I didn't reckon would happen, good Job Mercedes-Benz you've definatley kept me happy and I was in the market for a new sports car the SL63 030 would be it, especially since I am a big fan of naturally aspirated engines this car can be tuned well with some light N/A mods such as headers, ecu, filters and exhaust work for 25-45hp.

I really love what AMG has done to this car. When they released the pictures of the non-AMG updated 2009 SL, I was REALLY disappointed--I thought they KILLED the SL. But, the SL63 and SL65 both look amazing!

One thing though, that I find really funny, is that the wheels are blatant knock-offs of the 997TT wheels.

Rear diffuser looks like it will finally make an SL stable at high speeds. I've driven a CL65 a the thing was very floaty up top compared to my M5.

Since the introduction of the 63-series across the board, it's been noticeable that AMG have awoken to this deficiency.

It seems that AMG finally grasped that under car aerodynamics, while not cheap, are essential if their going to maintain their good name.

What speeds do you consider "high speed" or "up top"?

Well anything over 100-120mph I class as high speed. Up top is above 130 I suppose

Ok. 130MPH is aprox. 210 Km/h. At that speed my SL55 feels like the sofa in my livingroom. At that speed my S55 also feels like an even more comfortable sofa in my living room. Hell, even my girlfriends C43 feels OK at that speed.

The other day I've driven my S55 @ 170 MPH (thanks to MBENZNL deristriction, which we were testing) and that didn't feel bad either.

My SL55 starts to feel 'light' up front around 170 MPH. Around 185 it feels like it could use a little bit more downforce. HOWEVER, with more downforce that speed would likely not be possible.

I do 155+ MPH more than incidental, and I'm pretty satisfied. Perhaps a rear diffusor would make things better, but "floaty" isn't the SL55s biggest problem @ 155 MPH.

It's not a big complaint, just something I noticed when I took the CL65 to 160mph and my M5 to 170mph (where the electronic nanny stops the party) was that the M5 felt much better tied down. Moderator Vic55 found this with his M6,too.

I was being politically correct with my 130mph number due to some member being quite sensitive.

The CL was the old body style and not as sorted as the SL but even so I so think AMG needed to work on this and it won't affect the top speed if done properly, just make it safer to hit it.

Glad you've been working yours out too, these cars were made to be driven.

Haha you aren't the only one my friend. My wife gets to keep my CL63 and I am getting an SL63 030 and dumping the E63 as soon as this bad boy gets released. Deposit will be placed next week I can't wait for this car.

The tech is good but the looks are not. The design does not flow and it looks real boy racer not classy.
