SL500 vs. SL55...honestly
Unless someone can prove otherwise, it appears that every single MB dealer I've found is charging anywhere from 30-100K over list price for an ordered SL55. And I want one. Badly.
I have found several dealers who will sell me an SL500 at list (or for a few bucks over).
I love the looks of the car, but I believe strongly in the addage that there's just not a thing as too much HP.
Look, I love the SL55, but for 30 grand over? I can afford it, but I've been screwed before when I've paid over, then the market crashes, and I see list price versions a few months later. Besides, the stock market sucks, the economy sucks, there should be no addded mark-up. But apparently the dealers are getting it, so more power to them.
Here's my question. Would anyone on this board settle for an SL500. Or is the markup just worth it.

Kick back for a while and wait for a SL55 closer to what you would like to pay. Don't settle for a SL500 if a SL55 is what you want, and I know it is ...

Aside from the looks (mostly). The SL500 and SL55 are COMPLETELY different cars. Id pay the 30K if your in a rush or just wait it out. Either way you wont regret it. From the reviews Ive read and feedback Ive seen, its a win-win situation with this ride. 500h.p. supercharged engine in a hardtop luxury convertible......I really dont think it gets much better than that.
Good luck.
Good luck.

The money is your call, obviously.
But the SL500 and SL55 are completely different cars. I know of a number of guys who bought the 500 but flipped it for something else because it just didn't excite them or do much for them. A good car, all agree, quite good, but nothing special, and a couple now have the 55 and are much happier. The SL55 is super special -- the power, feel, sound are what they should be.
The SL500 is excellent, but drive a 55 and it's clear what all the fuss is about.

2008 CLS 63 & 2005 SL55
I've had mine on order for 14 months
I obviously am going to wait for mine...... Can't see paying over list price for anything.... Hey, but that's just me!
They tell me mine probably won't arrive here til sometime in May 03!!
If you've got the extra money to spend .... Why not?

Thanks everyone. I guess you settled my thoughts about it, in that I really want the SL55 and the price of admission is going to be $30,000. I have one on order for April. Just can't decide on color, but that's another thread.
Maybe I should get a CL600 as a matching car!
