355/20 Rear 305/20 Front - Possible?

I currently have a 305/20 on the rear with a 285/20 on the front. The car loses too much grip still, need wider tires, seriously considering a set of Radenergie R10s or something, 355 width in the rear I think should be sufficient. Anyone have any idea if they will fit?

I've had several experts check it out and they all said no, but I think thats BS. Porsche's and Vipers have about a 355, so I think the SL can too. Anyone ever have custom work done to make a bigger size fit?

Thanks for the help!

I'm no expert, so if the experts say it wont fit, it won't fit. Vipers and Porsches have wide flarred rear fenders. You could do it, but you are talking some serious loot. I am not up to speed on SL's, but the first thing I would do if I were you is look to see if anyone offers a widebody kit. This will most likely be the most cost effective way to do it. I am then guessing you may have to have some custom control arms built to push everything out, rather than just running an extra deep offset wheel. That may then require longer brake lines, but thats doubtful.

Like I said, I'm not an expert, but this would be the only logical way I could see having it work.

Yeah, I looked into a bodykit. But the only one I found only gave me like 315 MAX. A far cry from my 355. It's such a shame these cars don't come with bigger fenders. I can't imagine how a SL65 handles 740lbs of tq with a crappy 285...

I only run 295/19's in the rear..... and I do a fair amount of road course work with the car and I generally don't run out of grip. What kind of tires are you running?

I'm running 305/20 (rear) Nitto NEOGEN. I had SportConti's on before that, but they gave out a little quicker then I liked, the Nitto's are even worse.

I don't think Nitto's are very sticky. Are you judicious when applying the throttle, or do you just mash it? I'm not joking... You can squeeze on the gas and be at the edge of lighting them up, or you can just light 'em up!

It's not like I'm talking about racing and running left and right doing burn outs, I'm talking about daily driving. Perfect example, I give it gas to merge on the freeway @ roughly 50mph, when the jackhole next to me refuses to give in, I naturally drop the pedal and just like that I swing left and right as my car decides wether or not it wants to cooperate.

I ended up frieghtning the white Prius next to me. Next time if it doesn't move, I'm picking it out of my front grill.

In any case, if I'm working to launch off the line then forget it. Baby baby SMOKE! Maybe I'm just getting the wrong tires, when I came from the E55 I figured it couldn't be much worse, boy was I wrong.

I an a little bit surpriced. What kind of driving are you performing ???

I have a good grip on mine, even though i have more than 600 BHP.
AND I AM USING THEM !!!!!

Sorry to tell you that it will not work on a stock car. Fender are bearly wide enought for 305, 315 will rub.

Only one thing to do, custom fenders, ET 0, and a big wallet.

Lets hear more about it, when you are done.

I did a set of 355/25/19 on a Viper, and its the widest youre gonna get. The widest for a 20" is 345, and no way it will fit on a Benz (unless you do a Fab Design kit). I would suggest getting doing the Radenergies, and get some PS2 or Pirellis mounted. You could always go to 19" and get some DOT track tires.

You'd be much better off getting some Pirelli Corsas in the stock rear size....sure they'll only last maybe 5-7000 miles, but it's a helluva lot cheaper than body mods, and they will grip!

If only someone made a 19" drag radial! Nitto is supposed to have a 20" size available soon....

Hoosiers don't count as drag radials, and neither do Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. Those are the only brands that make a tire in the unusual stock 315/40-19 to my knowledge.

Please elaborate on the details of this supposed 19" drag radial.

Toyo R888 comes in a 19" 295/30 or 305/30

not stock.
I dont see it like such an impossible idea, just costly. get a GOOD body shop with experience in custom widebody work to design you a widebody solution for your needs.... it would probably run you 10K...

That would be a good choice for limited street use....but it's not a drag radial, but a road race tire.

DOT drag radials are still a radial tire with R2 compounds.

The R888 would outperform a drag radial on a street all day long.

The Corsa's, or Cups would also give Exodus that extra bite.

You can drive around on the Toyo and they will last. The CUPS are incredible and you put 4 of em on its amazing. I am sorry you are correct the R888 is a competition tire but not really soft enough to classify as a Drag Radial.

Id go for the R888 all around or the cups all around . My car has a mere 450 hp to the ground so I guess you guys have a difficult task
