SL65 differences 05-07

What if any differences are there in the SL65's from 2005-2007?
I drove a 2006 yesterday and it put a big smile on my face. They are asking $114 and it has 8k on it which seems a bit high to me.

06 has revised front end suspension. steering is more precise with better on-center feel. due to this - as far as i am concerned - the 05s offer inferior driving experience

Thanks,
I find that interesting becuase it drove much different than my 2003 SL55. I was wondering is it was just becuase it was newer and had less miles.

You mean 07 has the revised suspension and steering feel?

I think the 05 and 06 are identical, no?

no.. bunch of stuff is different on the 06+ cars

steering ratio mapping, revised hydraulic pump, different damper for the steering rack, different bushings on the front, etc..

far better on-center and turn-in feel

also brakes went from electro-hydraulic to purely hydraulic - providing more feedback and overall feel.

I think you are correct, the 06 is the same as 05. Changes were made in 07.

from the official press release about the 06 sl55

".... The superior agility and handling precision can also be attributed to
the revised elastokinematics at the front axle as well as to the
modified speed-sensitive power steering. A steering ratio that is now
seven per cent more direct gives the SL 55 AMG even greater
manoeuvrability. The modified valve control logic for the power
assistance translates into faster response when the steering is
centred. The AMG engineers have also fitted a new power steering pump
with a higher rate of delivery that guarantees an optimum degree of
power assistance no matter how quickly the steering wheel is turned.
Finally, the inclusion of a new steering damper makes for peerless
driving comfort."

At one point they also revised ABC for a big part calling it ABC-II. Was that the 06 (07MY) facelift?

just a question. When was the brake by wire phased out, or changed?

AFAIK brake by wire wasn't phased out. To be on the safe side (taking into account the rocky introduction in the early years of E-Class and SL-Class) they upgraded the backup hydraulic system to a full swing brake system, where in the older cars the backup was a way inferiour and underpowered braking system.

They kept the brake-by-wire because (when it works) it provides much better brake experience than the older system.

actually in the press release they talk about also bump in hp to 517 and that is for MY07, so i stand corrected.

however, i have driven a few SL AMG cars and the 05s always felt blunter than the 06+ cars. maybe it was all in my head...
