SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: ** Evosport SL63 Project Thread **

I'm not sure what the SL63 030 is exactly? You mean just the performance package? Even if it has 100 more HP on the SL63, I'd still take the CLK BS. For me it's not so much the power, but the chassis. So unless there's something I'm missing, an SL63 with 030 means little to me.
With regards to ABC suspension. The less electronics my suspension has, the better. Maybe for street driving, but for the purist just not a fan of things that take away my control or connection with the road.
If you mean the SL Black Series, then we'd have to wait to see what that means exactly. A hardtop SL (SLC) that is much lighter with more rigid chassis would be more in-line with something to compete with a CLK BS.

Thx for your perspectives
Though have you driven SL63 030 yet, to ascertain perf diffces vs non-030 SL63, esp on public roads? Am not so sure a CLK BS w/its elderly gearbox and non-ABC-based chassis will be as interesting as an SL63 030 on mtn twisties roads (as opposed to smooth, dry, relatively flat tracks)....
And wt diffces btwn SL63 030 and CLK63BS are some ?350lbs....prob within margin of error, esp given SL's more advanced chassis/gearbox; and supposedly bespoke, latest-tech Pirellis.....and IIRC SL has WB/ht dimensions rather similar to a 997TT....I suspect CLK has longer WB....
Will be interested to see what are claimed (and/or SportAuto) NBR times for SL63 030 vs CLK63BS vs 997GT3...all on street tires....

Correct. Like a macro button a la "M" button. But the tranny setting is still a dial so you can change that with a button, but that's ok. I prefer the dial as it should stany in "Manual" mode

If I might suggest Evosport make this project into their own version of a "Black Series" by taking out the ABC suspension, losing some weight in the seats...body panels..and maybe going to a fixed roof...kind of what AMG is proposing with its SL65 Black Series. I think that coupled with your performance mod's would make for an intriguing project. Good luck!!!

Simon/Brad,
is there anything planned for this car in terms of performance mods? i am looking for mods that can fit right hand drive cars... the intake/airbox, power pullies, midpipe will all fit right hand drive no problem correct? and i am assuming these parts are all the same for all the 63 amg cars? thanks!

EvoSport do you have any mods for SL63? Any power results?
Interesting:Can you really feel the difference between Stock and Ecu+Headers?
And how it feels in corners and on the straight vs M6?

- Software
- Power Pulley (new)
- Long Tube Headers (requires exhaust system modification)
- 2-piece lightweight Rear Rotors
- Carbon Fiber Airbox
Below are pics of the 2-piece rotors:

See post above.
OMG yes! With the long tubes (as tested on CLK63 Black Series), the power difference is incredible. We've tested shorty headers on the 63 motor and so far they make little to no power. Long tube is the way to go for any significant power gains. It is a compromise since it's not a bolt-on application, but wow! We made 67.84 HP and 56.4 FT-LBS with our long tube headers, exhaust and software. That is amazing on an NA car. See dyno below. The 500 RWHP run was with carbon wheels. Worth another 30 HP!
Faster off the line than an M6. Shifting is much smoother and faster. Scary fast. Corners the SL is heavy...shaving as much weight off helps, but still a pig. Hard to compete with a BMW in the corners.

i am aware that the long tube headers you guys have are for left hand drive cars only. Brad had told me that you guys are trying to work with your overseas partners to get the long tube headers to work on right hand drive cars. i am looking forward to this and really hoping you guys will get those headers to work on right hand drive cars.
will definitely give you guys a call once the time comes! thanks!

So yes, it's possible. We're still working on new things for the 63. Power pulley for 63 AMG is hoping releasing this week or next. We were making ~475 at the wheels w/out the Dymags, so we should be close to making 500 RWHP w/out the wheels.

Simon,
Any updates with regards to the long tubes working on RHD cars? I also want to know if you guys have an exhaust upgrade for this car.
I am interested in ordering the carbon airbox and power pullies for this car. Please send me the price and shipping to Hong Kong to my email: arf.yang@gmail.com.
Thanks.

There has been much more interest and development in the CLK63 and more recent the C63. As mentioned before, products we have developed from these cars can be installed on the SL as well. As far as anything SPECIFIC for the SL63, it's in progress, including carbon fiber body enhancements. We don't really see a need for an exhaust system for this car unless you install our long-tube race heaers. We feel the stock system (as most AMG systems) flow very well and, in this case, sound great. Of course if the customer wants more, we would be more than happy to build one
